Rookie quarterbacks starting in their first games as pros was a theme in our first lookahead picks column last week. We expected all three — Chicago's Caleb Williams, Washington's Jayden Daniels, Denver's Bo Nix — to undergo a rocky initiation. As a result, we foresaw a spread shift in Week 2 moving in the direction of their opponents.

We considered choosing games involving all three QBs a week ago but wound up with two. We tossed Chicago-Houston because of the overwhelmingly positive buzz surrounding Williams. (Turns out, the offense stunk but, because the Bears won and covered, the line for the upcoming Texans' game has barely been affected, if at all.)

As for the other pair: good news. The Commanders lost to Tampa Bay by 17 points, the Broncos to Seattle by six. Daniels' passer rating (93.1) was decent, while Nix's (47.5) was abysmal.

Consequently, the DraftKings lookahead line for the New York Giants at +2.5 versus Washington shrunk to +1.5 this week. NFL games rarely end with a two-point victory, but we'll gladly take the extra point that was available in the lookahead week.

The one-point movement for the other rookie-related game was more beneficial. We snared the Steelers at -2.5 (Caesars) in the lookahead, and it has gravitated to -3.5. In a nutshell, these are the opportunities we search for in lookahead wagering.

Our third pick In Week 1— on the Bengals, who laid an extra-large egg against New England — did not pan out. The 3.5 points against Kansas City that we secured at FanDuel moved in the wrong direction. Had we waited, Bengals +5.5 was there to be had.
