Seismic shifts from the lookahead lines to spreads in the week of the games are rare except when a prominent starting quarterback gets injured. If the number moves at least a field goal in your favor, it's cause for celebration. So let's pop the champagne over one of our lookahead picks last week.

We snared Miami -6 against the Jets partly under the assumption that slumping Buffalo would right the ship against woebegone New York. The Bills' 32-6 victory triggered a change to the current -10. Perhaps the Jets deciding to sub out QB Zach Wilson for Tim Boyle this week was a secondary factor. But their offense hit rock-bottom with the dazed and confused Wilson. Almost anybody else behind center might serve as an upgrade.

Another line also drifted to our advantage. We took Denver -1.5 in the belief that a fourth straight victory would catch bettors' attention.The Broncos did win -- barely -- over Minnesota. The spread now stands at -2.5.

We thought the Green Bay line of +7.5 might dwindle to a touchdown or less for its Thanksgiving Day visit to Detroit. Even though the Packers pulled off a mini-upset over the Chargers, the spot remains unchanged.

The Week 13 schedule on the first weekend of December lacks enticing spreads such as +3.5 and -2.5, forcing us to dig deeper for three recommended plays. Two are rooted in backup QBs.
