Monday, July 24 MLB odds, trends: Twins' Kenta Maeda, Mariners' Luis Castillo taking heaviest prop action at sportsbook
Last Wednesday when the Minnesota Twins visited the Seattle Mariners, starting pitchers Kenta Maeda and Luis Castillo both pitched well, but neither got the decision in the Twins' 6-3 victory. The two face off again tonight at Target Field, and the right-handers are taking the most MLB player props action at DraftKings on Monday.
Maeda Over 5.5 strikeouts (-170) is the most popular prop on the board. The 35-year-old got a late start to the season after recovering from Tommy John surgery that cost him all of 2022. He's 2-5 with a 5.10 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 42.1 innings (nine starts), an average of 5.6 Ks per start. It appears Maeda has been getting stronger of late and struck out a season-high-tying nine Mariners last Wednesday in his 6.1 quality innings. He has 16 strikeouts in 10.1 career innings vs. Seattle. Ty France is 0-for-6 off him with four Ks and Eugenio Suarez 2-for-14 with Ks.
Castillo is 6-7 with a 3.04 ERA and 133 strikeouts in his 20 starts, an average of 6.7 Ks per outing. Castillo Over 6.5 Ks (-160) is the No. 2 prop tonight. The right-hander had a season-high 11 strikeouts last Wednesday against the Twins in his six innings. It was his third start this season with at least 10.
"That's about as good a stuff as we've seen from Luis Castillo in quite a while, really from the first inning on," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "Oftentimes it takes him a couple innings to get into the game and into his stuff, but that was not the case. I thought he was really sharp."
Castillo is 1-1 with a 6.88 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 17 career innings against the Twins, who will not have slugger Bryon Buxton for the next few nights after he was placed on the paternity list. He has 17 homers and 40 RBI but is hitting a mere .195.
