Michigan vs. Wisconsin Big Ten basketball odds, bracketology: Wolverines need victory to approach NCAA Tournament bubble

Important game in the Big Ten on Tuesday for both Michigan and Wisconsin.

What would an NCAA Tournament feel like without Big Ten bluebloods Michigan and Wisconsin? College basketball fans may find that out next month with the Wolverines currently not in the Big Dance picture and the Badgers squarely on the bubble as they meet in Madison on Tuesday. Wisconsin is -1 at Caesars Sportsbook in the first meeting of the season between the teams.

Michigan (14-11, 8-6 Big Ten) hasn't missed the NCAA Tournament since 2015 – not counting the canceled 2020 tournament -- but isn't listed in CBS Sports' Jerry Palm's bracketology. Michigan has a NCAA NET ranking of jut 68th nationally with a 2-9 Quad 1 record.

The Wolverines were in position for a big win Saturday at home vs. No. 18 Indiana. They led for nearly 34 minutes and still were up 61-58 with 5:12 remaining but missed their final seven shots in the 62-61 loss. Head coach Juwan Howard can recruit, but he has been criticized for his in-game coaching and definitely was partially to blame for that loss. Howard had amassed a 3-1 record against the Hoosiers entering Saturday's game. Indiana hadn't won at Michigan since 2016.

No team with Hunter Dickinson should miss the NCAA Tournament. He continues to lead the Wolverines in scoring (17.9) and rebounding (8.4). Dickinson didn't get the final shot in Saturday's loss, though. Howard's son Jett took a 3-pointer for some reason despite being only down a point.

Wisconsin (14-10, 6-8 Big Ten) last missed the Big Dance in 2018 and is currently among the Last Four In via Palm, seeded No. 11 in the First Four against Mississippi State. ESPN has the Badgers among the First Four Out. Wisconsin has a NET Ranking of just 80th but is 5-6 against Quad 1 teams, which is largely why it is on the bubble and Michigan isn't.

The Badgers took a devastating 73-73 overtime loss at Nebraska on Saturday, blowing a 17-point second-half lead. It was the largest Nebraska comeback win since 2013. Both teams were scoreless for the final 2:41 of regulation. Wisconsin shot just 33.3% in the second half (3-for-14 from 3-point range).  The Badgers have played 14 games this season decided by 5 points or fewer (four in overtime), holding a 9-5 record in those contests. Wisconsin is 9-2 this year when shooting at least 40.0% from deep.

After a 3-19 record from 2007-2017, Michigan has gone 6-3 against Wisconsin over the last five years. Michigan is 3-4 in its past seven in Madison after an 11-game losing streak there. The teams play in Ann Arbor on Feb. 26.
