Miami vs. Rutgers odds, picks: Hurricanes expert reveals selections for Thursday's Pinstripe Bowl showdown

SportsLine college football analyst Tom Fornelli has identified his picks for the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl matchup between the Miami Hurricanes and Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Thursday

Former Big East rivals collide when the Miami Hurricanes and Rutgers Scarlet Knights square off in the 2023 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl on Thursday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Miami and Rutgers were members of the Big East from 1991 until 2004 when the Hurricanes left for the ACC. The Scarlet Knights later left for the AAC and, eventually, the Big Ten. This season the Hurricanes (7-5) tied for ninth in the ACC, while Rutgers finished fifth in the East division of the Big Ten.

Kickoff is set for 2:15 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights are 2.5-point favorites in the latest Miami vs. Rutgers odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 41. Before you make any Rutgers vs. Miami picks or Pinstripe Bowl predictions, make sure you check out the analysis from SportsLine and CBS Sports expert Tom Fornelli, given his mastery of picks in games involving the Hurricanes.

A CBS Sports writer since 2010, the entertaining Fornelli is best known for his college football expertise. He co-hosts the popular Cover 3 Podcast and appears regularly on CBS Sports HQ. You'll get maximum access to Fornelli's picks only on SportsLine. What's more, he has demonstrated a particularly sharp eye for the Hurricanes. In fact, Fornelli has gone 21-7 (+1360) in his last 28 picks in games involving the Hurricanes. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Fornelli knows that the Hurricanes have done an excellent job all season at stopping the run. The Miami defense allows 97.1 rushing yards per game, which leads the ACC and ranks 10th in the country. Last month, the Hurricanes held No. 4 Florida State to just 57 rushing yards on 31 carries (a 1.8 yards per carry average).

He also has taken into account that the Scarlet Knights have one of the best running backs in the Big Ten in Kyle Monangai. The 5-foot-9, 210-pound junior from Roseland, N.J., led the conference in rushing yards (1,099) this season. For his efforts he was named to the all-Big Ten second team.

For Thursday, Fornelli has studied the Miami vs. Rutgers matchup from top to bottom and revealed his top selections for the Pinstripe Bowl.

We can tell you he's leaning toward the Under on the posted total and has identified a critical X-factor makes one side of the spread a MUST-BACK. You ABSOLUTELY need to see what it is before locking in any Rutgers vs. Miami picks of your own.
