Lions vs. Bears NFL Week 14 odds, props: Justin Fields set at game-high 62.5 rushing yards, and quarterback's history against Detroit hints at much more
We don't touch on too many individual NFL props in this space, but it's not that often you see a matchup where a quarterback has the highest over/under rushing total in a given game – and that it might still be too low. That's where we for Sunday, when Detroit visits Chicago with Bears quarterback Justin Fields listed at O/U 62.5 rushing yards at DraftKings. The Lions are -3.5 on the SportsLine consensus with a total of 43.5, which was as low as 40 earlier week when it looked like some bad wintry weather could be in store. The forecast has since cleared up.Â
Fields has one game this season with 100 rushing yards. That was Week 11's game in Detroit, when he carried a season-high 18 times for 104 yards. Bears fans remember that game well because it was arguably the worst loss by any NFL team this season. Chicago led 26-14 with three minutes remaining and still managed to lose 31-26.
The former Ohio State star Fields now has three career 100-yard rushing games against the Lions, the most by any QB vs. any opponent since 1950. Realize that he has only faced them four times. The first time was as a raw rookie in Week 4 of the 2021 season at Soldier Field, where he rushed three times for nine yards. In the two games against the Lions last season, he had 147 yards and two scores on 13 carries in a 31-30 home loss in Week 10, and 132 yards on 10 carries in a 41-10 loss in Week 17.
Fields is +400 to log at least 100 rushing yards Sunday at DraftKings. He has not topped the 62.5-yard total otherwise this season but came close in Chicago's last game, a 12-10 upset win at Minnesota on Nov. 27, with 59 yards on 10 carries. That snapped the Bears' 12-game divisional losing streak, which had been the longest active such streak in the league. However, Fields has lost 10 straight starts against teams entering multiple games above .500, the longest streak for any QB since former Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Blake Bortles from 2014-16.
Chicago overall has lost 13 straight games vs. teams entering multiple games above .500. That's the longest streak in the league since the Cleveland Browns lost 17 straight from 2014-17 and twice as long any active streak. The Bears should be as healthy as they have been in many weeks out of the bye.Â
Has Matt Eberflus saved his job with the team at 4-4 in the past eight following a 0-4 start? The consensus is no, but Eberflus is considered a very good defensive mind, and that unit is surrendering just 19.9 points per game in the past eight outings after giving up 34.3 per game prior.
It's the first game back in Chicago for former Bears running back David Montgomery, who signed as a free agent with the Lions this past offseason. He has 10 rushing touchdowns, tied for the third-most in the first nine games with any franchise since the 1970 merger. Montgomery missed a few games with an injury but did face the Bears a few weeks ago. He had 76 yards on the ground and a TD. He is set at O/U 60.5 rushing yards and is the -150 overall favorite for an anytime TD.
At 9-3, the Lions are off to their best start since 1962 when the team started 10-2 with Don Shula as the defensive coordinator. Detroit holds a division lead of at least three games – both Minnesota and Green Bay are three back – for the first time in franchise history. The Lions are -1000 to win the NFC North (last title in 1993) and Dan Campbell is a +200 leader for NFL Coach of the Year.
