LeSean McCoy Being a Salary Cap Casualty Isn't Likely

LeSean McCoy is heavily favored to return to the Buffalo Bills despite reports that he could be a salary cap casualty.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com wrote recently that Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy could be a surprise salary cap casualty this off-season.

"McCoy is a very awkward fit in new coordinator Rick Dennison's one-cut running attack," Rosenthal wroted. "The Bills could decide to risk letting McCoy go a year too early rather than hold on to him a year too long."

Cutting their 2016 rushing leader would save the Bills over $6 million in cap space. They could also try to find a trading partner.

CBS SPORTS: MCCOY SAID BILLS HAD TALENT TO WIN

In 2015, McCoy signed a five-year, $40 million contract with $18.25 million guaranteed. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

The Buffalo News asserts McCoy will be around in 2017 unless the team undergoes an all-out rebuild. "If the Bills want to make a 2017 playoff run, they'd be best served keeping their best offensive playmaker," the newspaper said.

    BookMaker.eu agrees.

According to odds from the major offshore sports book, McCoy is a heavy -350 favorite to remain with the Bills in 2017, meaning you'd need to wager $350 just to win $100.

He's +230 to be on another NFL team's roster come Week 1, meaning you'd bet $100 to win $230.

McCoy had 1,267 rushing yards last season (6th, NFL) and 13 rushing TDs (4th). He averaged a career-high 5.4 yards per carry while playing 15 games.

In December, the Bills fired head coach Rex Ryan. Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott took his place.

One rumored landing spot for McCoy, should he be released, is Philadelphia. "Shady" played for the Eagles from 2009 to 2014. The Eagles also have been linked to impending free agent and former wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

From BookMaker.eu: Will LeSean McCoy be on the Buffalo Bills roster Week 1 of 2017-18 regular season?

    • Yes -350
    • No +230
