Jason La Canfora's NFL Week 18 props and same-game parlay: Big day for Patrick Mahomes among expert's best bets

NFL insider Jason La Canfora shares his best prop bets and same-game parlay for Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season.

There is still so much unknown about exactly what is at stake in many of the games this weekend, and no shortage of teams with nothing to play for who will treat these contests as exhibition games.

Makes for some tricky handicapping, to say the least.

I still like the Steelers to cover, the Chiefs vs. Raiders game to go Over and the Jaguars to go Over their team total, as we delved into midweek. But outside of that, not enough has come into focus for me to want to invest in other sides and spreads. Too much is in flux.

Even for prop betting purposes, the Saturday games are the safest plays as I see it at this point. I expect there to be ample points put up by three of the four teams participating (sorry Titans), so I'm leaning into those games for the most part. And, as one might expect, given how much is unknown about the stakes of so many other games, the player props have not populated for much of the Sunday card.

    Props

Jarrett Stidham Over 1.5 TDs (+104)

Ride the lightning! Stidham was slinging it all over the place against the best defense in the NFL. Now he faces one of worst secondaries around. The Chiefs are dead last, having allowing 32 passing touchdowns. The Raiders offense gave them fits last time out (Derek Carr threw for two in that game). Josh McDaniels will let it all hang out with this kid and he is loaded with weapons. Let's go.

    Darren Waller TD (+250)

It's been a lost season for Waller due to injury and all those blown second-half leads, but don't forget what a matchup nightmare he is. The Chiefs struggle against tight ends (nine TDs allowed to the position, bottom-four in the league). He wants to end the season on high note and has looked more like himself lately.

Patrick Mahomes Over 2.5 TDs (-101)

Can't get plus money on this prop like in some weeks past, but it still works for me. The Chiefs will have to chase points with their sorry defense. I anticipate they play this to secure the top seed no matter what tiebreakers are ultimately decided. Mahomes is facing a poor defense and makes a habit of three-TD games (two in his last four outings). This is a chance to cement his MVP status as well.

Evan Engram Over 4.5 Catches (-148)

Don't love the payoff, but we have limited inventory here and a lot of games for which we don't know what is on the line. Everything is on the line for the Jaguars, though. The Titans had no answers for Engram a few weeks back and he has been getting targeted a ton. Here's his recent target totals: 7, 15, 10, 8 and 2 – in a blowout over Houston last week in which the second half was moot.

    Evan Engram TD (+160)

There's too much meat on this bone. The Titans have no answers for Engram in the red zone. Doug Pederson will scheme it up, Trevor Lawrence loves throwing to him, and he caught two against the Titans in the first meeting.

Najee Harris Over 73.5 Rushing Yards (-117)

The Steelers are beating people up on the ground. Harris is finally free of his foot issues and running like a madman. The Browns have the worst Rush DEPA, per TruMedia. He will get fed and he will have a voracious appetite. Harris tore through a stout Ravens defense last week and the season is on the line for Pittsburgh. I want to jump on some Jaylen Warren scrimmage props when they post too.

David Njoku Over 33.5 Yards (-121)

The Steelers will try to take away the run game above all else. Njoku can engage, release and catch balls from the quarterback on scramble drills. Cleveland has too many other weapons to just put Minkah Fitzpatrick on this huge tight end.

    Kenny Pickett TD (+410)

This is a total gut play. The Steelers have been bogged down in the red zone, but Pickett has great feet and is super athletic. He's been great throwing on the run and making things happen downfield. But downfield goes away in the red zone, and he can make people miss. I just have a hunch he'll have ample opportunity to scamper in from relatively short yardage.

    Titans at Jaguars Same-Game Parlay

    • Trevor Lawrence Over 24.5 Completions
    • Trevor Lawrence Over 264.5 Passing Yards
    • Evan Engram TD
