How to bet on Jon Rahm at the 2023 Tour Championship
The 2022-23 PGA Tour schedule concludes when the 2023 Tour Championship gets underway Thursday from East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.Â
Scottie Scheffler currently sits atop the FedEx Cup standings, followed by Viktor Hovland, McIlroy, and Jon Rahm, who's recorded four wins this season. The Tour Championship features a staggered system, meaning Scheffler will start the Tour Championship at 10-under par. Hovland will start two strokes behind the leader, while McIlroy will start with a score of 7-under. Jon Rahm begins at 6-under, Lucas Glover at 5-under, and the rest of the field will be from 4-under to even par. The winner of the FedEx Cup will receive $18 million.
Scheffler is the +140 favorite (risk $100 to win $140) in the latest 2023 Tour Championship odds. McIlroy (+330), Hovland (+500) and Rahm (+800) are among the other 2023 Tour Championship contenders atop the PGA odds board, while most of the players starting the tournament close to even are huge longshots in this format.Â
Jon Rahm's Recent Form
Rahm's recent form leaves him with some work to do at the Tour Championship. He starts four strokes behind Scheffler as he's fallen from first to fourth in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings over the past couple weeks. Rahm finished T37 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and T31 at the BMW Championship.Â
One round in particular hurt Rahm in both events. He shot a 73 in the first round of the FedEx St. Jude before finishing the weekend strong. He went over 70 twice last week, but it was the second-round 74 that took him out of realistic contention before Saturday. The good news is that he has four rounds of 68 or lower in the playoffs, but he won't have much margin for error at East Lake.Â
From a season-long perspective, Rahm gives backers plenty of confidence. His four wins are two more than any other player on tour this season and he got them all against stacked fields at the Masters, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express and the Genesis Invitational.Â
Statistically, Rahm ranks fourth on the PGA Tour this season in total strokes gained, fourth in greens in regulation and second in scoring average. Driving accuracy has been been one of his downfalls as he ranks 110th in that category. Â
