Fantasy Football: Five changes from Week 15 you need to know about

Fantasy analyst Davis Mattek breaks down the action from Week 15 to see what has changed in the Fantasy landscape.

We finally made it to the championship week, my friends. You already know that playing a championship in Week 17 is no good, but if you are in fact doing that, don't worry, we will still have a column in this space for you next week.

It's been a great year of football, and the context of the league has changed so much with offenses playing faster and throwing more. I think perhaps more than any season since 2011 we have seen the NFL go in a new direction, and it is my hope that this column was helpful to you in figuring those things out.

    The Jaguars are tanking

Leonard Fournette started out the first half of this game against Washington with 13 touches and then received only one in the second half. David Williams then took over the backfield in the second half, and the Jags threw only a total of 17 passes in what should have been a winnable game against Washington. The only Fantasy-useful player of this bunch is DeDe Westbrook, and even I would be looking elsewhere in a Fantasy final if I had Westbrook on my roster.

DaeSean Hamilton is quite possibly the best Broncos' rookie WR

Since Manny Sanders left the lineup for the Broncos, Tim Patrick and Hamilton have out-targeted Courtland Sutton. Even with absolutely no obstacles in his path, the highly-touted prospect from SMU has racked up only seven receptions. Hamilton really has the profile of a guy who can succeed in today's NFL; he is smaller than Sutton, has much surer hands and runs a more precise route tree, which matters much more in 2018 than it did in even 2015. If Hamilton continues to outproduce Sutton over the next two games, I think it's quite worrying for Sutton's future prognosis.

All the Ravens want to do is run

Gus Edwards, Lamar Jackson, Kenneth Dixon. It doesn't matter. The Ravens want to revive their 2010 team and run the ball on every down and distance. Their game plan is to hope for a lead, let the defense suffocate the opposing QB and run the air out of the ball. The Ravens have three games of 48-plus rushing attempts with Jackson at the helm, which makes it three of the only eight times that has happened in the NFL since 2015. It appears that Dixon, Edwards and Jackson are all Fantasy starters with stable volume at the moment.

Dante Pettis is the real deal

With Kendrick Bourne active, I sort of expected Pettis to move back into a more complementary part-time role, swapping with Bourne. However, what happened is that Marquise Goodwin played only seven snaps and Pettis went a perfect five for five on his targets. Moving forward, Pettis seems like a player who will probably be a little overdrafted in 2019 (assuming no stud WR signings for SF) with Jimmy G, Pierre Garcon and Goodwin returning to full playing time as the 49ers disengage from the tank. But I do like Pettis' upside as a slot guy who could catch 80-90 balls in a perfect season.

Something is up with the Rams

We now have a definitive trend of the Rams not looking great for three straight games. They have also lost back to back games for the first time in Sean McVay's tenure as coach. The answer is not that Jared Goff is a pumpkin or Todd Gurley's ineffectiveness or the absence of Cooper Kupp. It seems that scheme-wise, teams have curtailed their ability to take shots down the field and haven't been biting on the play action near as much. Gurley, if healthy, is a clear start, as are Woods and Cooks. But I think if I was still alive with Jared Goff, he would be on my Fantasy bench this week.
