Fantasy Baseball: Top low-owned pitchers to target in Week 5
Finding the perfect pitcher to add to your Fantasy baseball team can be the difference between winning your league or going home with nothing. And before you determine which low-owned pitchers you should target heading into Week 5, you absolutely need to see what Fantasy analyst Jeff Zimmerman.
Zimmerman has written at FanGraphs, Hardball Times, RotoWire, ESPN, Baseball America, and Beyond the Boxscore. He has won several FSTA awards including Best Baseball Series and Football Writer of the Year. He's participated in Tout Wars and won it twice (15-mixed auction and 12-team H2H). Along with Tanner Bell, he just published the first edition of "The Process", a complete guide for running your own fantasy baseball start-to-finish. If there's anybody who knows what it takes to win a league, it's him.
Now, he's done an in-depth analysis of the best low-owned starting pitchers entering Week 5. One we'll give away: Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff, who's only owned in 29 percent of CBS Sports leagues.
"Eickhoff was an incredible Fantasy asset back in 2016 when he threw 197 innings with a 3.65 ERA," Zimmerman said. "Since then, he struggled with health and control and a 4.71 ERA. With Nick Pivetta getting demoted, Eickhoff is back in the Phillies rotation... There is some hope since his groundball rate is at 48% with most of the worm killing action coming from a new sinking cutter. Otherwise this season, he is just going with his rising fastball and curve. The pitches have excelled producing 14 strikeouts in 10 innings of work helping him post a 3.60 ERA with even lower ERA estimators. Fantasy owners can't ignore the strikeout potential and he should be owned in all leagues as his talent stabilizes."
Zimmerman has also identified which pitchers you should target if your teams needs a jolt, including a starting pitcher who is slated for two starts this week. Anyone who adds this player could hit it BIG.
