Picks and more to know

The last time Patrick Mahomes lost in the NFL playoffs was one day after then-Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud lit up Utah's defense for 573 yards and six touchdowns in the 2022 Rose Bowl.

Stroud and the Texans now have the chance to knock off the Chiefs in Kansas City, but it won't be easy with the signal-caller on the other side. Mahomes has a 6-0 career record in the Divisional Round, as he's tossed 13 touchdown passes and zero interceptions in those six contests. Houston's defense has secured 23 interceptions in 18 games this season, the second-most in the NFL.

While Stroud has a long way to go to catch Mahomes' postseason success, he became the sixth QB in NFL history to pick up a playoff win in each of his first two seasons following Houston's 32-12 victory over the Chargers in the Wild Card Round. His top weapons both showed out against a stingy Los Angeles defense, with running back Joe Mixon picking up 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well as wide receiver Nico Collins gaining 122 yards and a touchdown through the air.

SportsLine experts Jason La Canfora and Alex Selesnick have already locked in their player prop bets for this showdown, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one team covers in more than 50% of simulations.

Commanders at Lions

  • Kickoff time Saturday, 8 p.m. ET
  • Spread Lions -9.5
  • Money lines Lions -500, Commanders +380
  • Total 55.5

Picks and more to know

Jayden Daniels has put together a rookie season for the ages, leading the Commanders to a historic campaign. The No. 2 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft has powered Washington to a 13-5 record after the Commanders finished 4-13 in 2023. That makes Washington the second NFL team ever to go from 13+ losses in one season to 13+ wins in the next, joining the 1998-99 Colts.

Daniels threw for 268 yards and two scores along with running for 36 more yards in his playoff debut, a 23-20 victory over the Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round. The Commanders are going to need another spectacular performance from their star rookie, as they're going up against a Lions team that led the NFL in points per game (33.2) and finished with the second-most regular-season offensive touchdowns (68) in NFL history.

The Lions have seen their win total increase in each of the past three seasons under head coach Dan Campbell, headlined by a 15-2 mark this year to capture the franchise's first-ever No. 1 seed in the NFC. Campbell's team is just two victories away from playing in its first Super Bowl as well. While the offense has scored at least 31 points in five straight games, the defense has lost five Week 1 starters due to season-ending injuries.

SportsLine experts Jason La Canfora and Matt Severance have already posted their bets for Commanders-Lions, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one team covers in almost 60% of simulations.

Rams at Eagles

  • Kickoff time Sunday, 3 p.m. ET
  • Spread Eagles -6
  • Money lines Eagles -278, Rams +225
  • Total 43.5

Picks and more to know

Saquon Barkley's record-breaking first season with the Eagles produced a franchise-best 2,005 rushing yards. One game of his inaugural season in Philadelphia stood out from the rest. Barkley scampered for 255 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries back in a 37-20 Week 12 win – against this very same Rams team.

After picking up 119 more yards on the ground in a 22-10 Wild Card win over the Packers, Barkley is 352 rushing yards shy of matching former Broncos RB Terrell Davis' single-season rushing record (including playoffs).

This is a Rams defense, however, that has taken a huge step forward at the end of the season. In their last four games when the starters played (in Week 18 they sat them against the Seahawks), Los Angeles has allowed fewer than 10 points in all of them. That includes a 27-9 drubbing over the Vikings in the Wild Card Round, which matched Minnesota's fewest points in any outing this season.

One can never sleep on a Sean McVay-coached offense either. Matthew Stafford has the third-highest postseason passer rating in NFL history (minimum 200 attempts), while top target Puka Nacua's 90.0 receiving yards per game (regular season and playoffs) is the second-most in NFL history.

SportsLine expert R.J. White has his spread pick ready to go for this affair, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one team covers in almost 60% of simulations.

Ravens at Bills

  • Kickoff time Sunday, 6:30 p.m. ET
  • Spread Ravens -1.5
  • Money lines Ravens -115, Bills -105
  • Total 51.5

Picks and more to know

The final game of the Divisional Round has the tightest spread of the slate and features the only road favorite on the board. When these two teams squared off back in Week 4, the Ravens trounced the Bills 35-10 at home behind RB Derrick Henry's 199 rushing yards. Now these two efficient offenses will battle in a contest that features the most regular-season touchdowns scored and the fewest regular-season turnovers in any playoff matchup ever.

While the NFL MVP hasn't been announced yet, Lamar Jackson got the first-team All-Pro nod over Josh Allen in the closest QB vote since 2003. The last time the first-team All-Pro and MVP were different quarterbacks was 1987, with John Elway securing MVP despite Joe Montana receiving first-team All-Pro honors. Jackson and Allen have faced off four times previously, with each signal-caller earning two victories.

So why are the Ravens favored in Buffalo? A stronger supporting cast for Jackson is certainly a factor. Henry averages the second-most rushing yards (114.8) in playoff history and is 82 yards shy of becoming the seventh player ever to rack up 1,000 rushing yards in the postseason. After a shaky start, Baltimore ranks No. 1 in scoring defense and total defense since Week 11. Overall, six Ravens received All-Pro honors compared to just Allen doing so for the Bills.

SportsLine experts Mike Tierney, Larry Hartstein and Jason La Canfora have provided their plays for this heavyweight clash, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one team covers in more than 50% of simulations.
