Cowboys vs. Steelers betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries and more for Week 5 Sunday Night Football matchup
Two of the NFL's most storied franchises will collide when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Dallas Cowboys in the Week 5 Sunday Night Football game at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have won six Super Bowls, which is tied with the Patriots for the most all-time. Meanwhile the Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, which is tied for the third most ever. This season Pittsburgh is 3-1, while Dallas is 2-2. For Sunday, Pittsburgh is a 2.5-point favorite in the latest Steelers vs. Cowboys odds, while the over/under is 44. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET.
Pittsburgh has been one of the NFL's biggest surprises so far this season. Despite questions at quarterback entering the year, the Steelers won their first three games, over the Falcons, Broncos and Chargers. Pittsburgh gave up a total of 26 points over those three games. The winning streak, however, came to an end last week in a 27-24 loss at Indianapolis. The Steelers gave up more points in that game than they did over the first three weeks.
Pittsburgh quarterback Justin Fields enters Sunday's game on a bit of a roll. After accounting for 357 total yards and one touchdown over his first two weeks, Fields, who was obtained from the Bears via trade in the offseason, has accounted for 618 total yards and five touchdowns over the last two games.
He also is coming off arguably the best performance of his career: 22-of-34 passing for 312 yards (the second most of his career), one touchdown and a 104.0 rating while rushing for 55 yards and two touchdowns. With that performance, he became the first player in franchise history to have at least 300 passing yards, 50 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a game.
On Sunday, Fields and the rest of the Steelers offense will face an ailing Dallas defense. The Cowboys will be without DeMarcus Lawrence (foot), who leads the team in sacks (three), as well as star linebacker Micah Parsons (ankle).Â
Like Fields, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also has had a hot hand recently. The Dallas signal caller has averaged 300.0 passing yards over the last two games while accounting for five touchdowns. By contrast he averaged 236.0 passing yards and had two total touchdowns, as well as two turnovers, over the first two games of the season.
Prescott and the Cowboys offense will need to account for Pittsburgh pass rusher T.J. Watt. The relentless attack man has 99.5 sacks in 108 career games. With a half sack on Sunday, he would become the second-fastest player in NFL history to 100 career sacks behind only Reggie White (96 games).
