Cowboys vs. Eagles NFL Week 9 odds, trends: Dak Prescott looking to continue run of success against Philadelphia

Dak Prescott has come up big against the Eagles in his Cowboys career.

An early key tiebreaker in the NFC East is on the line in one of the marquee matchups this Sunday in Week 9 as the Dallas Cowboys (5-2) visit the Philadelphia Eagles (7-1), who are 3-point favorites on the SportsLine consensus. That's despite Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott being 7-1 in his past eight against Philadelphia. In that span, he's thrown 17 touchdown passes and only four picks for a passer rating of 110.3.

During Prescott's three-game winning streak in the series, the Cowboys have scored at least 40 points in each outing. Prescott is the only quarterback since 1950 with a completion percentage of at least 75% and at least three passing touchdowns in three straight games against a single opponent.

Prescott is also the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to lead his team to three straight 40-point games vs. a single team. The others were the Rams' Kurt Warner against the Falcons from 1999-2000, and the 49ers' Steve Young also against the Falcons from 1994-95.

However, this is only the second meeting between Prescott and Jalen Hurts. Both QBs missed one game in the rivalry last season, and the team missing its starter lost each game. In the previous matchup between the QBs in Week 3 of the 2021 season, Prescott had three touchdowns in a 41-21 win.

Rather strangely, the last time there were back-to-back Cowboys-Eagles games with the same quarterback matchup was 2019 in, with Prescott facing off against Carson Wentz. Including this game, it's the eight straight meeting without a repeat QB matchup. Hurts has a 1-2 record vs. Dallas with five total touchdowns and five turnovers.

Eagles Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Brown enters as the first player in NFL history with at least 125 receiving yards in six consecutive games. Cowboys cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Stephon Gilmore rank first and second in completion percentage allowed in coverage this season (among the 47 players targeted at least 40 times) with Bland at 41.5% and Gilmore at 42.9%.  Bland's 9.6 passer rating allowed as the primary defender in coverage is the lowest in the NFL, while Gilmore's 46.3 rating ranks third.

Bland returned interceptions for scores in Weeks 1, 4 and 8. He's the third player ever with three pick-sixes in his team's first seven games of a season, joining Derrick Brooks (2002) and Darren Sharper (2009). Bland's three pick-sixes are more than Hall of Famer Deion Sanders had in his five seasons in Dallas. Brown has 16 career games with at least 125 receiving yards, tied with Odell Beckham Jr. for the fifth-most games with at least 125 receiving yards by a player in his first five seasons in NFL history. Lance Alworth holds the record with 19.

Philadelphia is currently -200 to win the NFC East. Dallas is +155.
