Picks and more to know
These NFC East rivals have only met once previously in the playoffs, when Washington triumphed over Philadelphia 20-6 in a 1990 Wild Card battle. A pair of offseason additions currently in the midst of historic campaigns headline this colossal clash.Â
Will Jayden Daniels' dream rookie season have a fairytale ending? The No. 2 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft will be the sixth first-year quarterback ever to start in a Conference Championship game and is aiming to be the first of that bunch to advance to the Super Bowl.Â
Daniels has already joined elite company in his first two career playoff games. Washington's dual-threat star racked up 500+ passing yards, 75+ rushing yards, 4+ passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions in a 23-20 win over the Buccaneers and 45-31 victory over the Lions. Only Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have also put up those numbers in their first two playoff starts in NFL history.Â
On the other side, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley finished with a franchise-record 2,005 rushing yards in his inaugural season in Philadelphia. He's continued to dominate on the ground in the playoffs, as his 324 rushing yards are the fourth-most ever through two games in a single postseason. Barkley is just 171 rushing yards away from being the first player to reach 2,500 in a single season (regular season plus playoffs).
The Eagles and Commanders split the season series, with both stars shining in those showdowns. Barkley accumulated 296 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the two meetings, while Daniels had six passing TDs and added another 99 yards on the ground when facing Philly this campaign.Â
SportsLine experts Larry Hartstein, Jason La Canfora, Jeff Hochman and Alex Selesnick all have posted plays for the NFC Conference Championship, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one side of the spread has all the value.
Bills at Chiefs
- Kickoff time Sunday, 6:30 p.m. ET
- Spread Chiefs -2
- Money lines Chiefs -135, Bills +115
- Total 47.5
Picks and more to know
The Chiefs are just two wins away from becoming the first team ever to win three consecutive Super Bowls. But it's only fitting that the Bills are the latest hurdle in their path to history.
This will be the fourth postseason meeting between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, with only Tom Brady and Peyton Manning (five) having more such playoff matchups ever. Mahomes is 21-1 in his last 22 starts, with the lone loss over that stretch coming against Allen and the Bills back in Week 11.Â
The last 10 matchups between these two foes have seen them split it at five wins apiece. Incredibly, both the Chiefs and Bills have also scored exactly 251 points in those 10 games. In the playoffs, though, it's been more one-sided in favor of Kansas City. If the Chiefs were to win on Sunday, Mahomes would be the first quarterback to beat the same quarterback (Allen) in four straight playoff games.Â
One key for both teams heading into this matchup will be limiting mistakes. The Bills are the only team since 1970 to go their first 19 games without losing the turnover battle once. Buffalo finished +3 in turnover margin in its 27-25 nailbiter against Baltimore. Among all quarterbacks who have thrown at least 300+ playoff passes, Allen and Mahomes rank first and second for the lowest interception rate in NFL postseason history.
SportsLine experts R.J. White, Jason La Canfora and Jeff Hochman have locked in their bets for the AFC Championship Game, and the SportsLine Projection Model says one side hits well over 50% of the time for this spread.
