Buccaneers vs. Bills betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries, weather and more for Thursday Night Football Week 8
Could 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask make his first NFL start at quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) on Thursday night at the Buffalo Bills (4-3)Â to kick off Week 8? Bettors may not have that answer until about 90 minutes before kickoff with usual starter Baker Mayfield questionable due to injury. Buffalo, which has never lost at home in the series, is currently -9 on the SportsLine consensus with a total of 43.5, but those numbers would certainly change if Mayfield sits.Â
Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by Cleveland, which turned out to be a mistake even if Mayfield's career there started with some promise. The next six picks in that year's draft were: running back Saquon Barkley to the Giants, QB Sam Darnold to the Jets, cornerback Denzel Ward to the Browns, pass-rusher Bradley Chubb to the Broncos, offensive lineman Quinton Nelson to the Colts and then QB Josh Allen to the Bills. If there was a 2018 redraft, either Allen or Baltimore's Lamar Jackson (No. 32 overall pick) would go first overall. Allen is currently +1500 to win MVP.Â
When the NFL schedule was released in May, the Bucs were probably praying their visit to Buffalo would be very early on and not carry a threat of winter weather, Tampa Bay will indeed catch a break Thursday with unseasonably warm temperatures in western New York. It's the final scheduled primetime game of the season for the Bucs, and they aren't likely to get flexed into one. Thursday's game marks the beginning of a stretch of eight weeks that includes six road trips for the Buccaneers. It starts a stretch of three straight primetime games for Buffalo.Â
