Bryce Young briefly ties CJ Stroud as betting favorite to be No. 1 overall pick by Carolina Panthers in 2023 NFL Draft odds

There was an interesting odds shift today regarding the 2023 NFL Draft.

We say this often, but it's important to remember that all sportsbooks generally have slightly different odds on props, and they can be quite different if one book takes a huge wager on something. At noon Eastern time, FanDuel Sportsbook suddenly had Alabama quarterback Bryce Young as the -110 co-favorite with Ohio State's CJ Stroud to be the No. 1 overall pick in this month's NFL Draft, but now it's back to Stroud -200 and Young +150.

The Carolina Panthers are on the clock with the top pick, although this prop is in regards to whichever player goes first and not to specifically Carolina. If the Panthers trade out of the top spot – highly unlikely after trading up from No. 9 overall with Chicago to get it -- the prop is still active. Stroud has been the solid favorite since that trade.

No props shift around more because of rumors than NFL Draft props and that's what we might have here with today's movement. Peter King of NBC Sports reported that there are "several influential voices" within the Panthers organization that prefer Young to Stroud and that new QBs coach Josh McCown is a Young supporter.

Stroud has prototypical NFL size at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, while Young is only 5-foot-10 and his weight generated scrutiny as well. After bulking up to 204 pounds at the NFL Combine, Young did not weigh in at his pro day.

New Panthers head coach Frank Reich has been a QB coach, coordinator or head coach for 17 years in the NFL, and in all but six of the games his quarterback was 6-foot-4 or taller. During his five-year tenure as Colts coach, Reich also tended to gravitate toward more standard pocket passers like Stroud. Reich is on record saying not to "read anything" into his history at quarterback.

No other books this writer checked had Young move into the co-favored role for the top pick. The CBS Sports Big Board has Young as the No. 2 overall prospect (Will Anderson is No. 1) and Stroud No. 4. Young is the -175 favorite at FanDuel to be the No. 2 overall pick by Houston (or whichever team picks there) and Stroud is +175. The first round of the draft will be held on April 27 in Kansas City.
