Blue Jays vs. White Sox Thursday MLB Game 1 probable pitchers, odds: Bettors doubling up on Jose Berrios props in opener of double-header
Tuesday's Blue Jays at White Sox series opener was rained out, so the teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday on the South Side of Chicago. No player from any MLB game Thursday is taking more overall prop action at BetMGM than Toronto pitcher Jose Berrios is in Game 1 of the twin bill. The Jays are -125 favorites for the 5:10 ET first pitch.
Berrios Over 2.5 earned runs allowed (-140) and Over 4.5 strikeouts (-130) are the two popular props. The veteran right-hander has had an up-and-down season. He's 8-6 with a 3.74 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 17 starts. Over his last 15 starts, he has gone 8-4 with a 2.96 ERA – the seventh-lowest mark among AL pitchers over that span (since April 14). Berrios has topped 4.5 strikeouts in two straight and in three of his past four outings. He averages 5.6 Ks per game.
On April 25, Berrios had perhaps his best start of the season, shutting out the White Sox in Toronto on four hits -- all singles -- over seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts in a 7-0 win. Chicago was completely dominated in that series, leaving town after being outscored 20-2. In his career against the White Sox, Berrios is 2-1 with a 4.82 ERA in four starts. Several White Sox have good career splits off him:
- Tim Anderson – 11-for-39 with a double
- Elvis Andrus – 5-for-15 with two doubles
- Andrew Benintendi – 10-for-27 with two doubles, a triple and homer
- Eloy Jimenez – 9-for-26 with a double and homer
- Gavin Sheets – 3-for-10 with a double and homer
Berrios has pitched into the fifth inning in all 17 starts this year, the only Blue Jay starter to do so. That's a positive for his strikeouts prop. Over his last three road starts, Berrios has given up four runs over 15.2 combined frames (2.30 ERA), walking three batters while striking out 21 (0.96 WHIP, .207 AVG).
Other popular MLB player props today via DraftKings:
Royals' Jordan Lyles Over 2.5 earned runs allowed (-175) at Guardians
Nationals' Lane Thomas Over 1.5 total bases (-120) vs. Reds (day game)
Cubs' Marcus Stroman Over 4.5 strikeouts (-185) at Brewers (day game)
