The 1000th United States Golf Association event takes place this week at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Returning to the Donald Ross gem for the fourth time — and first time in a decade — the U.S. Open should once again crown a deserving champion on what is sure to be a firm and fiery golf course.

Only four men across the four different U.S. Opens held at Pinehurst No. 2 have finished under par by the end of the week. 1999 champion Payne Stewart was the first and he was later joined by Erik Compton, Rickie Fowler and 2014 champion Martin Kaymer, who ran away from the field thanks to opening with back-to-back rounds of 65.

Kaymer arrived in North Carolina that summer having previously won the Players Championship in the spring, carving a path world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will hope to follow. The Masters champion has done no wrong over the last handful of months winning five tournaments in his last eight starts.

Scheffler looks to add a third major championship to his belt as a heavy favorite at +300. The man who claimed the PGA Championship, Xander Schauffele, is among the lead chasing pack behind Scheffler at +1200 with Rory McIlroy in between the two at +1000. Two-time U.S. Open champion, Brooks Koepka, is sure to factor as well at +2200 after a couple of disappointing major starts to begin his 2024.
