2024 Straight Talk Wireless 400 odds, NASCAR picks: Best bets for Miami from proven racing expert

CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto reveals his NASCAR picks to SportsLine for the 2024 Straight Talk Wireless 400 on Sunday

Three spots in the Championship 4 are up for grabs as the Round of 8 of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs continues Sunday with the 2024 Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Two-time champion Joey Logano was first to clinch a berth when he captured the checkered flag at Las Vegas last weekend. Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and William Byron - the last three winners of this race - complete the top four in the playoff standings. Barring a victory on Sunday, Bell and Larson could secure a Championship 4 spot via points, but only with help. Denny Hamlin, who is seeking his first Cup Series title, shares the all-time lead for most wins at Miami with three.

Larson is the 33-10 favorite in the latest 2024 Straight Talk Wireless 400 odds, while Bell and regular-season champion Tyler Reddick are 6-1. Sunday's race is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Before making any NASCAR at Miami picks, be sure to see what CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto has to say.

Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com, and he chronicles stock car racing with the same thoroughness and passion that he's had since becoming a full-time race fan in 2001. He has an annual NASCAR media credential and also publishes a popular weekly NASCAR predictions column, famously calling Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez's breakthrough wins in 2022. Taranto has been red-hot for SportsLine in 2024 as he has nailed 15 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Chase Elliott at Texas. Anybody following his NASCAR picks has seen HUGE returns!

For the 2024 Straight Talk Wireless 400, we can tell you Taranto is high on William Byron (7-1), who won this race in 2021 and enters with a streak of four straight top-five finishes. Another curveball: He's fading defending Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney (10-1), even though he was runner-up at Miami last season. "Blaney's 2020 and 2023 races at Miami are his only two top-10 finishes there, as he otherwise finished 17th or worse in all but one other start at South Beach," Taranto told SportsLine. "His recent rough patch in the playoffs doesn't instill enough confidence for me to put him on my bet slip this week."

Taranto also locked in four more Straight Talk Wireless 400 best bets and is high on a MAJOR dark horse who is going off at triple digits! You ABSOLUTELY need to see his picks before locking in any NASCAR picks of your own.
