2024 NFL Week 9 betting power ratings: How to account for Jordan Love's injury, plus how to value all 32 teams

Get the edge over the sportsbooks in Week 9 and beyond by developing a power rating system to stay ahead of the lines

For the second time this season, Jordan Love has an injury that could force him to miss time. The last time he was out, the market responded by downgrading the Packers six points, but Green Bay was able to win and cover both Malik Willis starts, which came against teams with limited offenses. The Packers face the Lions this week and then have a bye, so if there's any concern about Love at all, allowing him to rest for two weeks and trying to go 3-0 with Willis could make some sense.

However, Love's groin injury is being reported as day-to-day, so it's also entirely possible he's able to practice later this week and get cleared for a game that could be critical in deciding not just the NFC North, but who eventually gets the No. 1 seed in the conference. If that happens, I'm only downgrading the Packers a half-point in my spread power ratings after watching a defense I had thought taken a big step forward against Houston completely fall apart late against the Jaguars. If Love is out, I'll downgrade the Packers another four points rather than six after Willis was effective running the offense in his first stint as starter.

I've also made a late change to the column with the news Joe Flacco would start at quarterback for the Colts over Anthony Richardson moving forward, but how much of an adjustment does that news require? You can check that out below in my spread power ratings.

What are NFL spread power ratings? You can check out the explainer in how to build and maintain NFL power ratings in our Week 1 version of this column. Or, you can read on to see my ratings for every team and where I think the market is off this week. I went 636-534-34 (+4899) on ATS picks from 2017-23 and even better with my top five picks each week, going 428-327-25 (56.7%) from 2015-23 in the big Las Vegas spread picks contests. My power ratings have been a big part of maintaining that success.
