2024 Monmouth Park morning line odds: Racing writer gives picks for the penultimate Pick 4 for Saturday, July 20

SportsLine horse racing writer Gene Menez, who gave out Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby at 18-1, has made his picks for the penultimate Pick 4 on Saturday at Monmouth Park

Saturday is Haskell Stakes day at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., and the penultimate Pick 4 begins with the Wolf Hill Stakes at 4:05 p.m. ET and ends with the Haskell Stakes. Before you make any picks, you NEED to know how SportsLine writer Gene Menez has handicapped the sequence.

A former reporter and editor at Sports Illustrated, Menez covered an array of sports, including horse racing, for the magazine and its website for almost 14 years. Between 2010 and 2012, he served as SI's handicapper for the Triple Crown races and correctly predicted Super Saver to win the Kentucky Derby in 2010.

In 2015, while writing for Sports on Earth, Menez accurately gave out the Kentucky Derby superfecta (American Pharoah, Firing Line, Dortmund and Frosted), which paid $1,268.20 for $2. Then in 2017, he tweeted out his Kentucky Derby picks, including Always Dreaming to win, and hit the Pick 4, which paid almost $6,900 on a $1 bet.

In a span of seven races last year for SportsLine, he cashed the winner of the Lecomte Stakes, the exacta in the Southwest Stakes ($468), the winner of the Holy Bull Stakes, the winner of the Sam F. Davis Stakes, and the trifecta in the Jenny Wiley Stakes. He also correctly called National Treasure to win last year's Preakness.

In May, Menez gave out 18-1 Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby. And last month he nailed Trikari to win the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes ($434).

For Saturday, Menez has handicapped the penultimate Pick 4 at Monmouth, made his picks and constructed his tickets.

We can tell you that Menez is high on Highland Falls, the 6-5 favorite in the Monmouth Cup Stakes, the second leg of the Pick 4. "Highland Falls is much the horse to beat in a race that came up pretty light," Menez told SportsLine. Highland Falls is Menez's top pick in the Monmouth Cup Stakes and a lone A horse on his Pick 4 tickets.

In addition, Menez is high on a double-digit longshot on Saturday. This longshot "has a chance to steal this" and could spice up the Pick 4. Menez is including this longshot on his tickets, and so should you. You NEED to see Menez's analysis before making any Pick 4 selections.
