2024 MLB futures, odds: Win totals best bets, more betting strategy from baseball expert
The first official game of the MLB season is a week from today, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres meeting for a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea. While other teams will still be playing in spring training, the Seoul series will count towards the standings.Â
With real baseball so close, you may want to give the win totals for each team a gander. Sportsbooks have gotten awfully good at setting these totals, with many of the numbers coming close to the win totals put forth by projection systems like Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA and FanGraphs' Depth Charts. I took both systems into account when I made the following picks. I also incorporated my own gut instinct and research, which I highly recommend you do as well when you make win totals picks. The projection systems are good -- really good. They also have the capacity to miss the mark. Hopefully I haven't done so with these picks.
Before you make any bets on MLB win totals, you need to see who SportsLine editor Nick Stellini is backing. Stellini worked as a baseball writer for outlets including Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, Sporting News, The Athletic and NBC Sports before joining SportsLine. He's had his finger on the pulse of the sport for years.Â
Now Stellini has shared his 2024 MLB win totals picks. Be sure to check out his plays before locking in any of your own.
