2024 Keeneland morning line odds: Racing writer gives picks for the all-stakes Pick 5 for Saturday, Oct. 5

SportsLine horse racing writer Gene Menez, who gave out Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby at 18-1, has made his picks for the all-stakes Pick 5 on Saturday at Keeneland

World class horse racing will take place on Saturday at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. The all-stakes Pick 5 begins with the Woodford Stakes at 3:40 p.m. ET and ends with the Coolmore Turf Mile. Before you make any picks, you NEED to know how SportsLine writer Gene Menez has handicapped the sequence.

A former reporter and editor at Sports Illustrated, Menez covered an array of sports, including horse racing, for the magazine and its website for almost 14 years. Between 2010 and 2012, he served as SI's handicapper for the Triple Crown races and correctly predicted Super Saver to win the Kentucky Derby in 2010.

In 2015, while writing for Sports on Earth, Menez accurately gave out the Kentucky Derby superfecta (American Pharoah, Firing Line, Dortmund and Frosted), which paid $1,268.20 for $2. Then in 2017, he tweeted out his Kentucky Derby picks, including Always Dreaming to win, and hit the Pick 4, which paid almost $6,900 on a $1 bet.

In a span of seven races last year for SportsLine, he cashed the winner of the Lecomte Stakes, the exacta in the Southwest Stakes ($468), the winner of the Holy Bull Stakes, the winner of the Sam F. Davis Stakes, and the trifecta in the Jenny Wiley Stakes. He also correctly called National Treasure to win last year's Preakness.

In May, Menez gave out 18-1 Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby. In June he nailed Trikari to win the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes ($434), and last month he had the exacta in the Franklin-Simpson Stakes.

For Saturday, Menez has handicapped the all-stakes Pick 5 at Keeneland, made his picks and constructed his tickets.

We can tell you that Menez is high on Brightwork, the 2-1 favorite in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes, the second leg of the Pick 5. "Brightwork is a perfect 4-for-4 going one turn," Menez told SportsLine. "Single." Brightwork is Menez's top pick in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes and the only horse from the race on his Pick 5 tickets.

In addition, Menez is high on a big double-digit longshot on Saturday. This horse "has run well at Keeneland" and could spice up the Pick 5. Menez is including this longshot on his tickets, and so should you. You NEED to see Menez's analysis before making any Pick 5 selections.

So which double-digit longshot can win? And how has Menez constructed his Pick 5 tickets? ... Join SportsLine now to get Pick 5 selections at Keeneland for Saturday, all from the horse racing writer who gave out Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby!
