Another signature event falls on the calendar as the 2024 Genesis Invitational tees off this week. Following up last week's WM Phoenix Open, Tiger Woods' tournament will play host to some of the best players in the world. It's the first signature event of the season to feature a cut. The field will be trimmed to the top 50 players and those within 10 strokes of the lead at the halfway point and could lead to some added drama that has been missing from the first two.

The third signature event will feature Woods himself as the tournament host plays for the first time since the Hero World Challenge. The 48-year-old looked healthy in his return to action as his surgically repaired ankle held up to walking 72 holes of competitive golf and his game got sharper as the week progressed. Woods finished inside the top 50 of this tournament a season ago and will look to get four rounds under his belt in the build up to the Masters a couple months down the road.

Woods is listed at +11000 at various shops, far from the top of the odds board. However, perhaps this is a good thing as the longshots continue to come through with Nick Taylor (+12500) taking a win in Scottsdale.

Leading the board is none other than world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. In possession of the lead with 10 holes to play, Scheffler was unable to close the deal for his third straight victory at TPC Scottsdale. He now looks for his first at Riviera as does Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa all of whom have been close before.

Max Homa hopes to bounce back after a couple poor weeks at a golf course that has been more than kind to him in the past. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay appear keen on breaking their winless drought as does Justin Thomas who impressed once again last week.
