2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs: NHL best bets worth backing on Monday include Stars-Kraken prop
The Dallas Stars hope to advance to the Western Conference Final for just the second time since 2008 when they host the Seattle Kraken for Game 7 of their second-round series in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Monday. Dallas, which lost to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, was unable to finish off the Kraken on Saturday as it suffered a 6-3 loss at Seattle.
The Kraken are looking to pull off their second upset during their first postseason appearance after winning Game 7 at Colorado in the opening round to eliminate the defending champion Avalanche. Seattle owned 1-0 and 2-1 advantages in this series before dropping Games 4 and 5. In just their second season of existence, the Kraken can become just the third franchise in NHL history to record its first two playoff series victories in seven games.
The winner of Monday's Game 7 will move on to the conference final to face the Vegas Golden Knights, who eliminated Winnipeg in five games in the first round and dispatched Edmonton in six in the second round.
Boston dominated the NHL this season, setting league records for wins (65) and points (135). The Bruins lost consecutive games only twice and dropped back-to-back contests in regulation just once as they finished 22 points ahead of Carolina to capture the Presidents' Trophy for the fourth time in franchise history and second in four seasons. Meanwhile, the Avalanche posted their fourth 50-win campaign and claimed their third consecutive division title, finishing one point ahead of Minnesota in the Central.
Edmonton superstar Connor McDavid had another tremendous campaign, recording a career-high 153 points to win the Art Ross Trophy for the third straight season and fifth time overall. The 26-year-old also captured his first Maurice Richard Trophy as he became the first player since Wayne Gretzky in 1986-87 to lead the NHL in goals (64), assists (89) and points in the same campaign. McDavid is the sixth player in league history to register 150 points in a season and first since Mario Lemieux notched 161 in 1995-96.
The Bruins entered the postseason as the clear favorites to win the Stanley Cup at +320, per Caesars Sportsbook. Colorado was listed at +550 to repeat and Edmonton was +800 to come away with its sixth overall championship and first since 1990. After one round, Canada is expected to boast a champion for the first time since Montreal in 1993. Toronto began the second round as the +350 favorite to win its first Cup since 1967, while the Oilers were listed at +375 to capture the sixth title in franchise history.
