2023 Louisville Cardinals win total betting strategy: Jeff Brohm looks for immediate upgrade in homecoming
The prodigal son returns. On the surface, what seems a very lateral head coaching move from Purdue to Louisville is instead a homecoming for Jeff Brohm, once a star QB for the Cardinals a generation ago under Howard Schnellenberger. Unlike the last time the 'Ville job opened a few years ago, when Brohm was still very early in his tenure with the Boilermakers, the timing was right after last season when Scott Satterfield made a quick escape from Derby Town just up the road to Cincinnati. For Brohm, reckoning he had taken Purdue as far as it could go in the current Big Ten power structure, it was an easy call, not only back to his roots but also competing in the more favorable climes of the ACC, far away from the Ohio States and Michigans of the college football world.
Inheriting a program that seemed to plateau after a promising beginning for Satterfield in 2019, Brohm is hopeful of providing an immediate upgrade as he did at Purdue and previous assignment Western Kentucky. While with the Boilermakers in the days before the portal, Brohm hit the more-limited grad transfer market to help elevate his first Riveter edition to bowl status. Knowing there was a hole at QB with the Cards after the Malik Cunnignham era ended in an injury-plagued manner a year ago, Brohm hit the modern portal hard (25 transfers!) but didn't have to look far, bringing along his former QB from Ross-Ade Stadium, Jack Plummer, who spent four seasons under Brohm at West Lafayette before a one-year detour to Cal last fall.
