2023 Fantasy Football RB rankings tiers: Format matters in Round 1, plus where the gaps in talent reside at RB
Running back can be a tricky position to manage in Fantasy drafts. On one hand, the emergence of RB committees across the NFL combined with the continued tilting of the offensive play call scales toward passing the ball means the position doesn't have nearly as many Fantasy superstars as it once did. But it also then makes the running backs who can consistently put up high point totals -- whether due to being in one of the few high-volume rushing attacks in the league or thanks to being a major part of their team's passing game -- that much more valuable.
In non-PPR drafts, expect a run on those precious few Fantasy stars at the position in Round 1 as managers deprioritize scooping up elite WR talent early. It wouldn't be surprising to see eight to 10 RBs in the first round of a 12-team draft (though double digits would certainly feel extreme) and just four to six RBs in the first round of a PPR draft, which is where we're focusing this list of tiered rankings at the position.
Below, you can find my full RB tiers for PPR leagues along with what you need to know about each tier. If you plan in a non-PPR league, you can check out my top 150 for that format and use it as a starting point for your own tiered list.
