2022 Seahawks NFL futures odds: Bettors not optimistic on Seattle this season without Russell Wilson
It's a new era in Seattle this NFL season, as the franchise moves forward without the best quarterback in team history after having traded future Hall-of-Famer Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos this offseason. Barring something unforeseen, it will either be Drew Lock (part of the haul back from Denver) or Geno Smith under center Week 1 when Seattle hosts Wilson and the Broncos. Bettors at Caesars Sportsbook aren't expecting many good things from the Seahawks this season.
Once +4000 to win Super Bowl 57, Pete Carroll's team is now +150000, the third-longest Super Bowl odds in the league. Seattle is ahead of only the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons at +25000 each. Overall, Seattle has gotten the eighth-fewest tickets and 10th-fewest dollars among all 2023 Super Bowl futures bets at Caesars.
Since the nine-time Pro Bowler Wilson was traded on March 8 for tight end Noah Fant, Lock, defensive end Shelby Harris, 2022 and 2023 first-round picks, 2022 and 2023 second-round picks and a 2022 fifth-round pick, the Seahawks have received the fourth-fewest tickets to win the Super Bowl, ahead of the Panthers, Commanders and Jaguars.
Seattle's win total remains at 6.0, and that number has produced the third-most lopsided Under bet by tickets at 72 percent, with only the Falcons at 76 percent and Bears at 74 percent surpassing the Seahawks. On money wagered, Seattle is the fifth-most lopsided Under at 86 percent, behind the Cardinals and Bears at 91 percent, the Falcons at 88 percent, and the 49ers at 87 percent.
Wilson always took some MVP action at the book but with him gone, there has been just one bet on a Seahawks player to win MVP as of now: Receiver D.K. Metcalf has one bet for $2.50 at +20000. That is tied for the second-fewest team MVP bets and third-lowest MVP handle. The Falcons also have one MVP bet for $2 on tight end Kyle Pitts at +30000, while the Texans have zero.
It's far from a sure thing that Metcalf is even on the Seahawks roster when the season starts. There have been numerous trade rumors surrounding him, with Metcalf set for unrestricted free agency at the season's end and poised to get mammoth money with the way the receiver market has exploded.
A few books out there have odds listed for every team's games this season and Seattle is favored in just four: Week 3 vs. the Falcons, Week 8 vs. the Giants, Week 14 vs. the Panthers, and Week 16 vs. the Jets. For the Week 1 opener on Monday night, Seattle is +5 vs. Denver.
The Broncos ATS has generated the second-most tickets and dollars for all Week 1 sides, only behind Saints against the Falcons in both. The Broncos moneyline at +180 has gotten the most dollars and second-most tickets (behind Bills against the Rams) among all Week 1 games.
Seattle has won its past two season openers, but obviously those were with Wilson under center. Most believe Smith will win the starting QB job in camp simply because he knows the offense a lot better than Lock does. The Seahawks open camp on July 27 in Renton, Wash.
