2022 NFL sack leader odds: Tennessee Titans' top pass-rusher Harold Landry out for season with torn ACL
Linebacker Harold Landry led the Tennessee Titans with 12 sacks last season and was +2500 at Caesars Sportsbook to lead the league in that category in 2022, but that won't happen with the news that Landry is done for the season with a torn ACL suffered during practice. This is a reminder that even with the preseason all but over, it's dangerous to bet Week 1 NFL games too early because serious injuries happen in practice all the time. The Titans are -5.5 at home for their opener against the New York Giants.
Landry, a 2018 second-round pick out of Boston College by the Titans, signed a five-year, $87.5 million contract extension that includes $52.5 million guaranteed back in March. His 12 sacks were easily a career high, and he became the first Titans pass-rusher with double-digit sacks since Brian Orakpo had 10.5 in 2015. Landry also had 1.5 sacks and six tackles in the team's home upset playoff loss to Cincinnati.
Seven of Landry's regular-season sacks were on third down, the third-best among all NFL pass-rushers. He also finished with 49 quarterback pressures, 22 quarterback hits, 21 quarterback hurries and 14 tackles for loss in being named to his first Pro Bowl. The 26-year-old was on the field for 89.5% of the Titans' defensive snaps and had missed just two games in his four seasons, both as a rookie.
Landry was given an over/under total of 8.5 sacks this season and was +8000 to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year. No Titans player has won that award or led the league in sacks. William Fuller is the Titans' single-season leader in sacks with 15.0 in 1991.
The Titans list Ola Adeniyi as Landry's backup at weak-side linebacker. In 16 games last year, the 24-year-old Adeniyi had 2.5 sacks and 21 tackles. Rashad Weaver, a 2021 first-round pick out of Pittsburgh, also should see a lot more time now. He was a standout of the 2021 preseason and expected to be a factor in Tennessee's pass rush before breaking his fibula last September. He was limited to two regular-season games.Â
