2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds: Vikings' Justin Jefferson pulling away as betting favorite, on pace to break Calvin Johnson's yardage record

Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson is on pace to set an NFL record.

One of the hallowed single-season NFL records is the 1,964 receiving yards amassed by the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson, now a Hall of Famer, in the 2012 season. That mark is in jeopardy with the Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson now on pace for 1,970 yards. Jefferson is pulling away as the -130 betting favorite at PointsBet to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Jefferson is also -300 at FanDuel to lead the league in receiving yards after another big game in Week 15.

No Vikings wideout has won NFL Offensive Player of the Year. The last Minnesota player to do so was running back Adrian Peterson in 2012 when he came up just short of breaking the NFL single-season rushing record. No Viking has won the receiving yardage title, which surprised me, as I would have guessed the Randy Moss or Cris Carter (or even Ahmad Rashad) might have.

Jefferson had 12 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown in Minnesota's stunning 39-36 overtime win over Indianapolis on Saturday, rallying from a 33-0 deficit at the half. It was the biggest comeback win in NFL history and the eighth 25-point comeback in history, including the playoffs. The Colts' Matt Ryan is the only quarterback to be on the losing end of two of them. Ryan, of course, was under center for Super Bowl LI when his Falcons blew a 28-3 third-quarter lead and lost in OT to New England.

The Colts had as high as a 99.6% chance to win. That came at 6:59 in the 3rd quarter, when the score was 33-7. Entering Saturday's game, teams leading by 30-plus points were 1,548-1-1 in the regular season and playoffs since 1930.

It was Jefferson's 23rd career game with at least 100 receiving yards. That ties Moss for the most such games in a player's first four seasons in the Super Bowl era, and Jefferson obviously has three games left this season. The Vikings, though, could be tempted to rest starters in Week 18 if their playoff seeding is locked (they could be set as the NFC's No. 2 by then).

Jefferson has 1,623 yards (he was set at over/under 1350.5 entering the season so he will completely obliterate the Over) and is on pace for 1,970 for the season – again, if he plays the final three games. It's important to note that Johnson set the record in 16 games. He averaged 122.8 yards per game. Jefferson is at 115.9 YPG. Miami's Tyreek Hill is second in receiving yards at 1,529 and is the second favorite for OPOY (+300) and to win the yardage title (+200).

Minnesota's remaining schedule begins with a home game vs. the Giants. The Vikings then go on the road to play the Packers and the Bears, and those final two could have wintry conditions that might hurt Jefferson's chances. He had 154 yards in the first meeting with Chicago and 184 in the first with Green Bay.
