2020 Tokyo Olympics track, boxing, basketball odds and predictions: Best bets for Maria Andrejczyk, Argentina, and more from SportsLine's top Olympics expert
August began on Sunday, and a slew of gold medal recipients graced the podium to wrap up the weekend. Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the 100-meter hurdles, while Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs won the 100-meter dash. The action will continue this week as other events move toward the final rounds.
Quite a few track and field events haven't concluded yet, and this year's competition in women's javelin could be intense. Five throwers carry odds between +275 and +700 at Caesars Sportsbook, and China's Lu Huihui is a +275 favorite alongside Germany's Christin Hussong. However, the three throwers who round out the top five have a good shot at winning the gold medal as well. One underdog stands out from the rest of the pack ahead of the women's javelin start, which is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on Monday. (Head over to our 2021 Olympics page for more analysis and updates)
Before you lock in any 2020 Tokyo Olympics picks or make your Tokyo 2020 predictions, you need to see what SportsLine Olympics expert Mike Tierney is saying.
A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. In the past two Olympic Games, his advice helped those who followed him cash in big, and he already has nailed a winner at Tokyo 2020.
At the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, he nailed Suzanne Schulting (+2500) of the Netherlands and Norway's Havard Lorentzen (+800) to triumph in speed skating and the USA's Mikaela Shiffrin (+185) to win the giant slalom. Tierney also took the Under (10.5) on the Americans' gold-medal count, and that also cashed as the USA came in with nine.Â
And at the Rio 2016 Summer Games, Tierney told readers to bet Over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and Over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals, and two easy cashes. Anyone who followed Tierney's advice cashed in huge!
One giveaway: Tierney is backing Poland's Maria Andrejczyk (+300) in the women's javelin. The 25-year-old owns the best distance this year (71.4 meters) and is being underestimated after finishing fourth in Rio. The shoulder injury Andrejczyk dealt with in Rio is in the past, and she's beaten Hussong in each of the last three competitions they've both been a part of.
"Andrejczyk is medal-less in international competitions but is in "prime position" to break through," Tierney told SportsLine.
The Olympics expert has released two other CONFIDENT picks for this week's competitions, and one is an IDEAL PLUS-MONEY OPTION. His best bets are offering tremendous value, so you ABSOLUTELY need to see Tierney's analysis and who he is backing before you make any 2020 Olympics picks or Tokyo 2020 predictions in track and field or other sports.
