2020 NFL Draft: With 10th pick, Cleveland Browns inclined to address offensive line
The Cleveland Browns didn't have a first-round pick in last year's draft thanks to the trade for Odell Beckham Jr. – and, no, the Browns aren't trading Beckham to the Vikings – but they have drafted well in Round 1 of late. In 2018, Cleveland landed two likely franchise cornerstones in quarterback Baker Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward.
The year before, Cleveland hit a home run at No. 1 overall with defensive end Myles Garrett, got a very good player at No. 25 in defensive back Jabrill Peppers (became part of the Beckham trade) and a promising young tight end in David Njoku at No. 29.
Cleveland is set to pick No. 10 overall in Round 1 this Thursday in the 2020 NFL Draft, and it is widely expected the team will look at an offensive tackle even after signing Titans tackle Jack Conklin to a big free-agent deal. Conklin has spent his career at right tackle, and with the departure of veteran Greg Robinson the team needs someone to protect Mayfield's blind side.
Thus, we project Cleveland to take raw but physically dominant Louisville tackle Mekhi Becton at No. 10. William Hill sportsbook offers few props on Becton: Yes-only that he's a Top-10 pick by anyone at -200; +240 that he's the first offensive lineman drafted overall; and an Over-Under draft position of 8.5, with the Over a -130 favorite.
We don't recommend the first tackle off the board prop as Tristan Wirfs is projected to go No. 4 overall to the Giants and is a +110 favorite on this prop.
Becton is ranked as the No. 11 overall player on the CBS Big Board and No. 3 offensive tackle behind Jedrick Wills (projected No. 8 to Arizona) and Wirfs. The 6-foot-7, 365-pound Becton started 33 games in his career at Louisville. Last year, he was the first lineman in school history to be named first-team All-ACC and won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the most outstanding blocker in the conference.
Just once previously has a Louisville offensive tackle been chosen in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, and that was Bruce Armstrong in 1987 to the Patriots.
NFL pick: Over 8.5 draft position (-130) for Becton.
