2020 Detroit Tigers Preview: Projected rotation, starting lineup, prospects, win total

SportsLine's John Bollman went 14-1 on his MLB win total bets last season. Here he previews the Tigers and tells you whether to go Over or Under 57.5 wins.

Detroit Tigers

2019 record: 47-114

Record in one-run games: 14-22

O/U win total from Willam Hill: 57.5

Key Additions: Jonathan Schoop, CJ Cron, Ivan Nova, Cameron Maybin

Key Losses: Drew VerHagen, John Hicks

The Tigers actually made a decent amount of moves after a 47-win season in 2019. They signed a lot of high-upside players in hopes they can get good value in return for them at the trade deadline. The Tigers also didn't lose anybody, but they didn't really have anybody to lose. They only won 47 games even with Nick Castellanos for half the season, and it will be interesting to see how much of an effect their signings have on the results.

Projected Rotation

1) Matthew Boyd

2) Ivan Nova

3) Jordan Zimmermann

4) Spencer Turnbull

5) Daniel Norris

Fulmer isn't expected back until around July, and even then, he should be on an innings limit. Nova should be consistent in the rotation, and the Tigers have a lot of starters with Major League experience due to the number of injuries they had last season. If anyone on their pitching staff performs at a high level, expect him to be moved by the trade deadline.

Fantasy-relevant relievers

Joe Jimenez (projected 25 saves, 4.55 ERA)

Major League-ready prospects

Gregory Soto (SP), Tyler Alexander (SP), Casey Mize (SP), Matt Manning (SP), Isaac Paredes (INF), Jake Rogers (C)

Projected Lineup

1) Cameron Maybin

2) Jonathan Schoop

3) Miguel Cabrera

4) CJ Cron

5) Christin Stewart

6) Austin Romine

7) Dawel Lugo

8) Niko Goodrum

9) Jacoby Jones

This lineup does have a little bit of a better look at the top with Maybin, Schoop, and Cron. They should add some pop to the lowest run-producing team in the Majors last season. However, the only depth they have in the lineup is in prospects.

Key bench players

Daz Cameron (OF), Victor Reyes (OF)
