Jamal Adams trade? Odds are that New York Jets will keep All-Pro safety

It has been known for weeks that New York Jets Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams wasn't happy with his current contract situation, but Adams had stopped short of demanding a trade. He officially has now done so, with these teams being his preference: Ravens, Cowboys, Texans, Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers and Seahawks. All are Super Bowl 55 contenders, which probably isn't a coincidence. The Jets reportedly still have no plans to deal Adams, but he could push things further by holding out of camp. 

The coronavirus is going to affect player salaries in the major sports leagues. Owners are going to take big financial hits with no fans likely able to attend games in 2020. Clubs around the league are likely waiting to give out big extensions to their veteran players because of uncertainty over the salary cap going forward due to the coronavirus and the revenue losses.

Adams has two years left on his rookie contract and wants an extension that makes him the NFL's highest-paid safety. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU deserves it from his performance on the field. He was first-team All-Pro last year, reached his second straight Pro Bowl and won team MVP honors for the second consecutive season.

Adams also has personal reasons for long-term security. His father George suffered a devastating hip injury a year after the New York Giants drafted him 19th overall in 1985. George Adams had a fine rookie season but was never the same after that injury.

In a no-brainer move, the Jets picked up the fifth-year option on Jamal Adams' contract in April. However, the team doesn't want to shell out a huge extension right now and prefers to see how the 2020 season plays out. Should the Jets take trade calls, there would be a robust market for the 24-year-old. Gang Green reportedly would demand a first- and third-round pick for Adams.

Yahoo's Charles Robinson had previously reported that while the Jets weren't shopping Adams, they would at least listen. The Jets reportedly also listened on Adams ahead of last season's trade deadline; the Cowboys were heavy after the Texas native. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had reported there "isn't any traction" on an Adams trade to the Cowboys – that's where Adams ideally wants to be dealt so he can be close to home.

The Cowboys have to pay QB Dak Prescott first and foremost. Can you imagine Prescott's reaction if Dallas traded for Adams and gave him a huge deal before taking care of Prescott? The Ravens also inquired about Adams before the 2019 trade deadline.

Landing Adams could put either the Cowboys or Ravens over the top in terms of winning a Super Bowl (Kansas City would be nearly unbeatable with Adams, but the Chiefs have to pay Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes and won't have cap room for Adams). Baltimore is a +650 second-favorite on the moneyline odds to do so at William Hill sportsbook, while Dallas is +1200. The Cowboys and Ravens do play this regular season. The Jets play neither.
