Dolphins vs. Chiefs NFL Week 9 odds, props: Tyreek Hill ready to "work" former team, set at league-high 91.5 receiving yards for Germany game

The Dolphins and Chiefs face off in Germany on Sunday morning.

It's a potential AFC Championship Game preview and matchup of MVP candidate quarterbacks on Sunday morning from Frankfurt, Germany, when Tua Tagovailoa and the AFC East-leading Miami Dolphins face Patrick Mahomes and the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs, who are -1.5 on the SportsLine consensus. There are storylines galore here but none bigger than Dolphins superstar receiver Tyreek Hill facing the Chiefs for the first time since they traded him to Miami. Click here for model picks.

In March 2022, the Chiefs shipped Hill to Miami for five draft picks: a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), second-round pick (No. 50) and fourth-round pick, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft. While Kansas City has reached two AFC title games and won a Super Bowl since that trade, there's no doubt that Miami won it – with that 2022 first-round pick, incidentally, the Chiefs took Purdue pass-rusher George Karlaftis but only after moving down one spot to 30.

Karlaftis is a fine player who has six sacks this season, but Hill is one of the most electric talents in NFL history and last Sunday became the first player in the Super Bowl era with 1,000 yards receiving through his team's first eight games. He has a league-leading 1,014 yards and is on pace for an NFL-record 2,155, which would shatter Calvin Johnson's current mark of 1,964 in 2012 with Detroit.

Hill is a +125 favorite at DraftKings to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He's set at over/under 91.5 yards against Kansas City – the highest receiving yardage total for any player in the league in Week 9. Hill is a +550 favorite to have the most receiving yards of any player Sunday. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.

The Chiefs didn't want to get rid of Hill, a Pro Bowler all six seasons there, but he wanted to be the highest-paid receiver in the league, and Kansas City is paying Patrick Mahomes a ton. Tough choices had to be made. Miami made him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history (at the time) shortly after completing the trade. Since the deal, no player in the NFL has more receiving yards or catches than Hill.

The only possible downer about Sunday? It's a Chiefs home game in Germany and not at Arrowhead Stadium, where the fans could have given Hill a nice reception.

"Obviously it would've been great to play in K.C., but it really doesn't matter where we play at, you feel me? They going to get this work wherever though," Hill said. "I'm kind of glad that [the trade] happened. "Obviously the situation that I'm in is great. I've got great teammates. My family is from Miami, and also, I accomplished one of my goals of being one of the highest paid in the league. So, everything's great."

Hill has 2,724 receiving yards with Miami, the most by a player in his first 25 games with a team in NFL history. With 91 yards Sunday, Hill would surpass the record he set last season (1,104 yards) for the most receiving yards by a player in their first nine games of a season in the Super Bowl era. He finished with a career-high 1,710 yards and was fourth in OPOY voting.

Sunday is the NFL's first-ever international game between two teams entering at least four games over .500 and features the league's top-scoring offense (Dolphins) and No. 2 scoring defense (Chiefs).  The Dolphins have a reputation of late of not being able to beat the top teams. They are 1-6 in the last two seasons against clubs with top-6 records in the NFL in that span, including the playoffs. That includes losses to the Bills and Eagles by a combined 42 points this season.

Kansas City had a six-game winning streak end in stunning fashion last Sunday, a 24-9 defeat in Denver. The Chiefs' 16-game winning streak in the series, the longest active in the NFL, ended. Patrick Mahomes had his first career game with zero touchdowns and at least three picks. The Chiefs have never scored fewer than 20 points in back-to-back Mahomes starts (88 career starts), the fifth-longest streak by a QB all-time.

With 73 receiving yards on Sunday, Travis Kelce can become the fourth tight end ever to record 11,000 career receiving yards, joining Tony Gonzalez (15,127 receiving yards), Jason Witten (13,046) and Antoinio Gates (11,841). Kelce would become the fastest tight end ever to reach the 11,000-yard milestone (152 games). Kelce is 14 yards shy of breaking Gonzalez's team record; Gonzalez played his first 12 seasons in Kansas City and his final five in Atlanta.

This is currently the most-wagered Week 9 game at BetMGM, but that's to be expected because it's the first on Sunday and a terrific matchup. The Chiefs are taking the most action of any club against the spread in both tickets and handle, but the Dolphins are taking the most underdog money line action of any club at +105. The total is 51, and that's the most-wagered Over so far in Week 9.
