Reds vs. Orioles Monday MLB odds, props: Jordan Westburg latest touted Baltimore prospect to be called up, +540 to homer in debut
Arguably no MLB team is loaded with more young talent than the Baltimore Orioles, and yet another top-100 prospect is expected to make his debut Monday at Camden Yards against the Cincinnati Reds as infielder Jordan Westburg has been called up from Triple-A Norfolk. Westburg is +540 at FanDuel to go deep in his first game. There are no Rookie of of the Year odds available for him yet.Â
MLB.com ranks Westburg as the No. 34 prospect in the sport and No. 3 in the Orioles system behind shortstop Jackson Holliday (No. 1 overall) and outfielder Colton Cowser (No. 15). Consider that the O's have already have graduated mega-prospects Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson (+500 to win AL Rookie of the Year). Westburg had 714 Triple-A plate appearances before his promotion, compared with Henderson's 295.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Westburg, 24, was the No. 30 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State. Several players from the class have beaten Westburg to the Show, but none have made a huge impact yet. Westburg was among the final Orioles cuts this spring after batting .306/.368/.510 with five doubles, a triple and a home run.
Westburg, who will become 68th former Mississippi State player to make his way to MLB, is given an overall grade of 55 on a scale of 20-80 but only a hit grade of 45 – everything else is exactly 55 (power, run, arm, field). He hit 27 homers and knocked in 106 runs between Double-A and Triple-A in 2022, and this year is batting .295 with 18 homers and 54 RBI at Triple-A.
To get a hit tonight, Westburg is -280. He's -110 to score a run in what should be a high-scoring game, as the total of 10 is the night's highest. The Orioles will first see Reds rookie pitcher Brandon Williamson (1-0, 5.40 ERA).
Baltimore will need to make a 40-man roster move to accommodate Westburg in addition to clearing space for him on the active roster. He will reportedly be in the starting lineup on Monday, although it's not clear where. The most likely solution will see Westburg at second base, with Henderson moving over to shortstop to shore up some offensive woes. Orioles second basemen have slashed .230/.285/.363 and shortstops .218/.266/.368 so far this year, with Adam Frazier and Jorge Mateo seeing the most playing time in the middle infield. Henderson has played in a number of spots.Â
