Monday, August 14 MLB odds, props, trends: Bettors in on Rays' Tyler Glasnow, Astros' Jose Altuve

Here are the most-wagered MLB props Monday at DraftKings.

There are a couple of important interleague games in MLB tonight with implications for the wild-card races in each league: Tampa Bay at San Francisco, and Houston at Miami. The two most-wagered player props on the entire DraftKings MLB board on Monday happen to be on Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow in his return from a minor injury issue and Astros second baseman Jose Altuve.

Be aware the Rays are headed to San Francisco without one of the best young players in the league in 22-year-old shortstop Wander Franco due to some potential off-field problems. He has been placed on the restricted list and will miss this entire trip as the league looks into the matter.  Franco is batting .281/.344/.475 with 17 home runs, 58 RBI and 30 stolen bases and made his first All-Star team.

Glasnow Over 17.5 outs recorded (-135) is the No. 1 prop tonight in terms of action at the book. The big right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts. It's interesting that outs recorded is the prop of choice because Glasnow hasn't pitched since July 31 due to back spasms and thus may be a bit limited. He originally was targeting this past Saturday for his return but was pushed back again. Back spasms could flare up at any time and force Glasnow to the bench.

That said, he had pitched three straight starts of at least seven innings (21 outs), tying a career high, before going down. He has topped 17.5 outs in five outings overall this year. Glasnow's lone start against the Giants was back in 2019, and he went six innings.

Altuve Over 1.5 total bases (-105) vs. the Marlins is the other big prop. The former AL MVP and likely future Hall of Famer had been scorching hot on a 14-game hitting streak, with several multi-hit games, but was 0-for-4 in Sunday's home loss to the Angels. Of Altuve's 58 hits on the year, only 22 are for extra bases, and of course an extra-base hit would automatically cash Over 1.5 TB. He has a double in three career at-bats vs. Marlins starter Braxton Garrett.

Tonight's other popular MLB player props at DraftKings:

Marlins' Braxton Garrett Under 1.5 walks (-175) vs. Astros: Garrett has only walked 19 batters in 117 innings in 2023.

Braves' Max Fried Over 5.5 strikeouts (-130) vs. Yankees: Fried has been on a bit of a pitch count since his return from a long IL stint but has topped this number in two of three outings in that span.

Rangers' Max Scherzer Over 7.5 strikeouts (-110) vs. Angels: Scherzer has topped this number once in two starts since being traded by the Mets.
