New England Patriots, Tom Brady reportedly agree to two-year contract extension
The defending Super Bowl-champion New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year contract extension with quarterback Tom Brady that will keep him in Foxborough, Mass., through 2021, per ESPN. He is scheduled to make $23 million this season. Brady, 42, will enter the 2019 season as the NFL's sixth-highest paid quarterback. He has said he plans to play until he's 45.
According to NFL.com, Brady will earn $30 million in 2020 and $32 million in 2021.
Brady is coming off another solid season in which he threw for 4,355 yards and 29 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He also rushed for two scores. In Super Bowl 53 versus the Los Angeles Rams, Brady didn't need to do much as New England's defense smothered L.A. in a 13-3 victory. Brady has won a record six Super Bowls and four Super Bowl MVP awards.
The SportsLine Projection Model pegs New England to win 10.9 games this season.
For Week 1 against visiting Pittsburgh, oddsmakers list the Pats as 6-point favorites. New England is a 6-1 co-favorite to win Super Bowl 54, along with the Kansas City Chiefs.
