The Cardinals had a seven-game win streak until they entered Coors Field on Tuesday and got hammered for 12 runs in the first three innings of a 15-6 loss. The Rockies got 22 hits. Three of the hottest MLB hitters are Rockies with Brendan Rodgers, Jose Iglesias. and Randal Grichuk all having 19 or more hits in the last 14 days. The wind is blowing out at 10 mph at Coors. Jose Quintana has been solid for the Cardinals but gave up six runs on his last visit to Denver on July 15. Take the Rockies to win a high-scoring game.
Kyle Freeland has actually been pitching a lot better lately. Jose Quintana has been really good his last three times out but four turns ago he faced the Rockies in Colorado and allowed 6 ER in 5 IP. The Rockies had 22 hits yesterday and I don’t think their bats will just disappear. The Cardinals are significantly worse on the road while the Rockies are significantly better at home. Take the value in the Rockies.
The Cardinals are 35-20 at home but 25-29 on the road this season. Coors Field is a very tough place to play, generally, and the Rockies are 31-27 there this season. Cardinals starter Jose Quintana has made five starts in Coors Field in his career and has pitched to a 5.93 ERA. He gave up six runs in five innings there last month. We'll take the home underdog value here.
Colorado's Kyle Freeland hasn't been great at home this season but has been good overall his past three starts (beating Padres, Dodgers and Brewers) and historically has been better in his hometown of Denver -- believe he was the first player from Denver to ever suit up for the Rockies. I ALMOST played Rox runline last night thinking the Cardinals might be in a trap game situation, and wow were they! St. Louis is four games below .500 on the road, mind you, and when Jose Quintana pitched at Coors Field on July 15 while with Pittsburgh, he allowed six runs. Quintana has a career ERA near 6.00 at Coors. Charlie Blackmon could win this game by himself as he's 8-for-13 with a double and homer career off Quintana. Getting Colorado -110 on the runline is too good to pass up.
