This is a quick turnaround for Northern Colorado, which won outright Sunday as a 4-point dog while UNC Asheville won Saturday as a 6.5-point underdog. I still like the Bears in this CBI neutral-site matchup because of how effective they are at breaking presses (90th percentile efficiency, per insider Jordan Majewski). The Bulldogs rely on their pressure defense but I'm betting it will lead to open looks for the Bears. Take the points.
The Big Sky conference was a delight to watch this season from a free-flowing offensive standpoint. Yet, poor defense plagued the league and makes it difficult to trust Northern Colorado in the second round of the CBI. I'm taking UNC Asheville, which is use to guard-oriented, small-ball offense in the Big South Conference.
CBI game from Daytona Beach. Northern Colorado got a bit of a raw deal as it had to play Sunday while UNC Asheville advanced on Saturday, but I still think the Bears are the better team behind Daylen Kountz, whose 743 points on the year are seventh most in a season for the Big Sky Conference and fourth in program history. The Bears are averaging 78.1 points per game to rank second in the Big Sky and 28th in the nation. UNC leads the conference in three-point field goal shooting (38.3%).
