Jaguars out for Cam Newton? They apparently prefer Mike Glennon over former NFL MVP
The Jacksonville Jaguars were considered a possible landing spot for Cam Newton. That might have changed on Friday.

Another day, another rumor surrounding former NFL MVP Cam Newton. Early this week, it was reported that Newton wouldn't consider signing with a team as a free agent for a backup role. Apparently, Newton has changed his tune – according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport -- because he must have realized that he wasn't going to be a starter anywhere barring injury. SportsLine oddsmakers listed the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots as the moneyline favorites to sign Newton. It's time to downgrade the Jags as on Friday they signed journeyman QB Mike Glennon.
Yes, journeyman Mike Glennon, he of the 6-16 career record as a starter and a rating of just 84.3 with four teams, has a job over Cam Newton? What world is this?
The Jaguars wanted to add veteran depth behind second-year starter Gardner Minshew II because his primary backup was Joshua Dobbs, who has thrown 12 passes in his NFL career. The team also drafted Jake Luton in the sixth round last month. But Mike Glennon over Cam Newton?!
"Mike is entering his eighth season in the NFL and will bring vital experience into our quarterback room and make us a better football team," Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. "We want to be as strong as possible at every position."
Perhaps Jags management felt that Newton would be too much of a "threat" behind Minshew or maybe Newton was asking for too much money. Newton missed the majority of the 2019 season due to a foot injury sustained in the preseason, and the fact teams can't examine him due to the coronavirus is certainly hurting his market.

New England seems like the obvious landing spot because Newton is clearly better (at full health) than Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer, but a report by the Athletic said that Pats OC Josh McDaniels isn't high on Newton and that Bill Belichick and the Pats are comfortable rolling with Stidham. We'll see.
Seattle would make a lot of sense as Newton could back up Russell Wilson and play on a contender. The Jets are a new addition to this list as they don't have an experienced backup behind Sam Darnold. Other veterans such as Joe Flacco and Blake Bortles are still on the market.
