Giants vs. Eagles NFL Week 7 spread, betting odds: Zach Ertz, Miles Sanders out for Philadelphia

The Eagles could be comically short-handed for Thursday game vs. the Giants.

It's a less-than-appealing matchup of one-win NFC East teams in the Thursday night NFL game in Week 7 – at least there is a Thursday game after there wasn't in Week 6 – as the New York Giants visit the Philadelphia Eagles. The Iggles could be almost comically short-handed on offense with top running back Miles Sanders and Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz joining the list of the walking wounded and both expected to miss at least one game. Philly is a 3.5-point home favorite on the William Hill betting odds.

Sanders rushed nine times for 118 yards in Sunday's 30-28 loss to Baltimore and hurt his knee after it was bent at the end of a 74-yard run in the second half. The good news is that an MRI apparently showed nothing serious and that Sanders shouldn't miss more than two weeks. He's fourth in the NFL with 434 yards rushing and first among running backs in averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Sanders also has 12 catches for 91 yards.

Boston Scott should serve as the primary back as long as Sanders is out with Corey Clement mixing in. Sanders also missed Week 1 in Washington and Philadelphia was upset 27-17. The Eagles totaled only 57 yards rushing.

Ertz, meanwhile, is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury. The three-time Pro Bowler is tied for the team lead with 24 catches this season but only for 178 yards with one touchdown.

It's possible, then, that the Eagles could be without an incredible nine projected offensive starters on Thursday. Their line is in total disarray. Center Jason Kelce was the only member of the original offensive line to play Sunday vs. Baltimore. Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson sat with an ankle injury and his replacement, rookie Jack Driscoll, left with his own ankle problem.

It's possible that receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson play, although more so Jackson. Jeffery has yet to in 2020 off foot surgery, while Jackson (hamstring) has been limited to three games. Other guys currently hurt: WR Jalen Reagor, TE Dallas Goedert, LT Andre Dillard, G Brandon Brooks, G Isaac Seamalo and OT Jason Peters.

Philadelphia had opened as a 6.5-point favorite, so early action is clearly on the Giants.
