Broncos vs. Jaguars NFL Week 2 injury report, odds, spread: Jerry Jeudy, Ronald Darby out; Trevor Lawrence now favored to lead league in interceptions
The Jacksonville Jaguars carry a 16-game losing streak into their home opener vs. Denver on Sunday.
The Denver Broncos will be without starting receiver Jerry Jeudy and cornerback Ronald Darby and could be without stud pass-rushing linebacker Bradley Chubb when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Jags are on a 16-game losing streak – only two other teams have reached 20 losses in a row. Off an uneven NFL debut, Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence is no longer the Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite and is the +700 leader to lead the NFL in picks.
The Chicago Cardinals of 1942-45 lost 29 in a row for the overall mark, and the Super Bowl-era longest skid belong to Tampa Bay Buccaneers of 1976-77 at 26 straight, so Jacksonville has a long way to go to catch those clubs. Currently, the Jaguars are in a five-way tie for the 12th-longest losing streak in league history.
Remember, they were 3-point favorites last week in Houston but were crushed 37-21. Lawrence certainly showed some positive signs in throwing for 332 yards and three touchdowns but also was picked three times – he never threw three interceptions in a game at Clemson and had never previously had a losing record as a starting QB dating to his high school days in Georgia.
Lawrence is now a +550 second-favorite behind New England's Mac Jones (+400) to win Offensive Rookie of the Year and a +700 leader to top the NFL in interceptions. The only other QBs to throw at least two in Week 1 were future Hall of Famers Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Lawrence is given an Over/Under season total of 18.5 picks.
It appears Jacksonville got out of Week 1 without any major injuries, but that wasn't the case for Denver in its 27-13 win at the Giants as both Jeudy (high-ankle sprain) and Darby (hamstring) have landed on injured reserve, meaning they will each miss a minimum of three games. Tim Patrick should take most of Jeudy's snaps and was a popular Fantasy pickup this week after he had four catches for 39 yards and a TD vs. the Giants.
First-round rookie Patrick Surtain will take over for Darby, who played all 61 defensive snaps and finished tied with a team-high six tackles vs. the Giants. Chubb didn't play in the opener because of an ankle injury and the former No. 5 overall pick is questionable for Jacksonville.
Denver is currently a 6-point favorite Sunday and it's another chance for bettors to cash in on Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater. He is now 22-3 ATS in career on the road, the best such cover mark in league history. Teddy could have a big day considering Jacksonville has allowed at least 24 points in 16 straight games, an NFL record.
