2020 NFL Draft: Jaguars may trade for third pick from Lions to take Tagovailoa or Herbert

Could we see an early Lions-Jaguars blockbuster trade in Round 1 of the NFL Draft on Thursday night?

ESPN's Adam Schefter just recently tweeted out the following regarding Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft: "Here's something worth monitoring tonight: Jaguars' GM Dave Caldwell just called Lions' GM Bob Quinn about this evening's picks, per source."

Detroit sits currently at No. 3 and Jacksonville at No. 9, but the Jags also have the No. 20 overall pick thanks to this past season's Jalen Ramsey trade to the Los Angeles Rams. The Jaguars were thought to be happy with 2019 sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew II as their starting quarterback this year, but they could have their choice of either Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa or Oregon's Justin Herbert if they moved up to No. 3.

If the Jags took either, it would pay off handsomely at William Hill sportsbook. On the "which team drafts Herbert" prop, they are +1200. On the "which team drafts Tagovailoa prop" they are +700. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio is reporting that Tagovailoa to the Jaguars has "gathered steam in recent days."

Would the Nos. 9 and 20 picks be enough for Detroit? The Lions are on record as saying they are happy to trade down as they look to fortify their defense. They are -110 favorites to be the team to draft Ohio State's Jeff Okudah. The top cornerback in the class probably wouldn't be available at No. 9.

The Miami Dolphins also reportedly are looking to trade into the No. 3 spot, so the Lions could play the two Florida teams off each other to get a better haul.
