Wizards vs. Spurs Monday NBA injury report, odds, props: San Antonio only team yet to lose as betting favorite this season
The Spurs are the only team in the NBA without a loss this season as betting favorites
The San Antonio Spurs are a .500 team against the spread this season at 23-23, but Gregg Popovich's club is the only team in the league unbeaten as a betting favorite, a rare feat. San Antonio will look to keep that streak alive Monday night with the Spurs at -3.5 on the SportsLine consensus against the visiting Washington Wizards.
San Antonio is 4-0 straight up and ATS as a favorite this season. Every other club has at least once such SU loss and two ATS losses. Charlotte is the only team without such an ATS win (0-4). The Spurs should be a lot better than other bottom-feeders like the Hornets, Pistons or Wizards because San Antonio has a franchise piece in place in rookie No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama.
Popovich recently said that Wembanyam's nightly minutes limit was raised to 30, and he played exactly that number in Saturday's 113-112 win over Minnesota. The towering rookie posted his third straight double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Vassell added 25 points. Wembanyama and Vassell have scored at least 20 points in the same game 12 times this season, the second-most among teammate duos aged 23 or younger behind Orlando's Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero with 13.
Wembanyama is -200 favorite at DraftKings to win NBA Rookie of the Year. He leads all rookies in points (20.5), rebounds (10.1) and blocks (NBA-best 3.13) per game. When the Spurs won 131-127 in Washington on Jan. 20, he tallied 24 points, eight rebounds, six blocks and four assists. His points + rebounds + assists total tonight is 41.5 – a season high.
"He's really settled into the game," Vassell said. "He doesn't take any necessarily bad shots. Every shot is something I've seen him work on and I'm confident in all the shots he's getting to. He's picking his spots and I think the two-man game we've been developing has slowly but surely started to get better and better. Whether I'm coming off the ball screen or he's come off the ball screen, we're making the right read and we're playing off each other, and it's been good."
San Antonio's other primary big man, Zach Collins, is questionable for Monday's game. He sat out the second half of a back-to-back on Saturday and is averaging 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on the year.
Washington snapped a six-game skid Saturday with a 118-104 win in Detroit for Brian Keefe's first victory in two games as the Wizards' interim coach. Keefe lost in his debut Thursday night, hours after incumbent Wes Unseld Jr. was moved to the team's front office.
Trade candidate Kyle Kuzma scored 30 points vs. the Pistons, and his seven games with at least 30 points are the most in his career through the first 45 games of a season. Kuzma is one of 11 players averaging at least 22 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. Kuzma's over/under PRA is 35.5 for Monday.
The Wizards defeated the Spurs in San Antonio on Jan. 30, 2023 by a score of 127-106, snapping their longest active road losing streak (22 games) and winning their first game in San Antonio since Dec. 11, 1999.
