Cavaliers vs. 76ers Tuesday NBA injury report, odds, trends: Philadelphia taking heaviest spread action of day with Donovan Mitchell out for Cleveland
Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell will not play Tuesday in Philadelphia.
The NBA's In-Season Tournament group stage play resumes tonight with five games, and the game taking easily the most betting action at DraftKings is Cleveland at Philadelphia, with the 76ers currently 7.5-point favorites on the SportsLine consensus and Philly taking the most spread and money line action (-325) of any team on the board, in large part because the Cavs will be without All-Star guard and leading scorer Donovan Mitchell.
This is an East Group A game. Indiana leads that group at 2-0, followed by Philadelphia at 2-1 and Cleveland at 1-1. Only Detroit at 0-3 has already been eliminated from advancing. The group winner and the two best second-place teams from the six groups all advance to the knockout round. The Pacers are currently -250 favorites to win the group with the Sixers at +380, Hawks at +800 (they host Indiana tonight) and Cavs at +1800.
At the book, the 76ers are taking 70% of all spread bets on this game and 90% of the money line action, easily the most of any team on the board in any game. On the total of 218.5 points, 82% of the bets are on the Over but 90% of the tickets have come in on the Under.
Mitchell will miss a third straight game Tuesday due to a right hamstring strain and almost surely won't play Wednesday vs. Miami, either. Mitchell is averaging 29.2 points per game, seventh in the NBA. He has scored at least 20 points in 21 straight games dating to the 2022-23 regular-season, the NBA's second-longest such active streak. Cleveland has won each of the past two without him, although those games were at home.
Sixth man Caris LeVert would normally start for Mitchell but is questionable with a knee issue. He was also questionable Sunday against Denver before being ruled out. LeVert is third on the team in scoring at 18.0 PPG. He ranks second in the NBA in scoring off the bench (16.7 PPG when doing so) and eighth among reserves in assists per game (3.4 per game when coming off the bench).
The Sixers, who are on a two-game winning streak, are listing no one of note on the injury report (other than Kelly Oubre, who is recovering from recently being hit by a car). That's notable because star Joel Embiid usually is listed as questionable before then playing. It's still early.
Embiid has logged least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in back-to-back games, and his five such games on the season are tied for the league lead. He is set at over/under 45.5 combined points, rebounds and assists. Embiid Over 29.5 points (-120), Over 4.5 assists (-165) and Over 10.5 rebounds (-135) are all popular props. No player is taking more action for a game's first basket tonight than Embiid at +450.
No player is taking more action on a 3-pointer prop Tuesday than Philly's Tyrese Maxey Over 2.5 (-175). Maxey already has three games this season with at least six 3-pointers on 50% shooting from deep, the second-most in the NBA. Maxey's 39 made 3-pointers rank sixth in the league.
It's the first meeting of the season between the Cavs and Sixers. Philadelphia has won the past three at home in the series.
