Braves vs. Phillies Tuesday probable pitchers, odds: Rare matchup of teams on six-game winning streaks; Spencer Strider has dominant history vs. Philly
The Braves open a big NL East series in Philadelphia tonight.
MLB's marquee matchup on Tuesday is in the City of Brotherly Love as the Phillies host the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves. Both teams are an MLB-best 13-2 since June 2 and enter on six-game winning streaks. It's only the seventh time since 2004 that two teams have faced off with both on at least a six-game run. The Braves will send ace and NL Cy Young candidate Spencer Strider to the mound, and he has dominated the Phillies in his regular-season career. The Braves are -150 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook.
The twin six-game winning streaks are tied for the third-longest in the majors behind Cincinnati's nine in a row and San Francisco's eight straight. During Philadelphia's season-high run, it is allowing just 2.5 runs per game. Lefty Ranger Suarez (1-2, 3.82 ERA) got a late start to the year due to injury but is 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 20 June innings. He didn't pitch in the four-game set in Atlanta from May 25-29 (teams split) and is 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 42 career innings against the Braves.
Atlanta's Eddie Rosario has never faced Suarez in a regular-season game but enters off a two-homer game Sunday and on a four-game homer streak, the longest of his career. It's the longest streak by a Braves player in five years and one shy of matching the longest streak in team history. It's also one shy of matching the longest streak in MLB this season. Ozzie Albies is 2-for-12 with a homer career off Suarez and is batting .458 with two doubles, three homers and a 1.435 OPS in his last six games.
This is the third time this season the Braves have won at least six in a row and they have scored at least six runs, totaling 56, during the current run. They've outscored their opponents by 32 runs.
Strider (7-2, 4.12 ERA) was the 2022 NL Rookie of the Year runner-up to teammate Michael Harris and was the NL Cy Young favorite for a while this year, but is now a +800 fourth favorite. The right-hander has allowed 13 runs in nine innings over his past two starts (Braves won both) to see his season ERA rise from 2.97.
Strider has a 1.65 ERA with 43 strikeouts in five career regular-season appearances (four starts) against the Phillies and allowed two runs or fewer in all four of those starts. He did allow five runs in just 2.1 innings in a loss against the Phillies in Philadelphia in Game 3 of last year's NLDS. Strider is +110 to record a win tonight and is set at over/under 1.5 earned runs allowed. Bryce Harper is 0-for-8 against Strider with three Ks in the regular season.
