Today's top picks: Why the Lakers will cover against the Suns and more NBA, MLB, NHL, golf and auto racing expert bets for Sunday, May 30
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Sunday, May 30, on the Early Edge podcast
Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball, the NBA, NHL, golf and auto racing for Saturday, May 29.
Coach starts things off with four SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first two come in the NBA: the Clippers (-3) over the Mavericks (9:30 p.m. ET) in Game 4 of their playoff series and the Lakers (-6.5) over the Suns (3:30 p.m. ET) in Game 4 of their matchup. "The Lakers are dialed in," Coach says. "They're laser-focused."
The next Play of the Day comes from MLB: the Giants and Dodgers go Over 7.5 runs (4:10 p.m. ET). And the final Play of the Day is in the NHL: the Hurricanes (-110) over the Lightning in the opener of their second-round series (5 p.m. ET).
All of McClure's picks are in auto racing, with four being in the Indianapolis 500 (12:45 p.m. ET). In addition to taking Tony Kanaan (+1400) to win the race, McClure has him at -115 over Takuma Sato. "I love Tony Kanaan in this spot," he says. "He's got the better car, better equipment. He's got a ton of experience."
McClure also likes Marcus Ericsson (+135) over Graham Rahal. "Marcus Ericsson has the same equipment as the best driver and pole-sitter, Scott Dixon," he says. "That is awesome news for someone getting +135."
His final Indy 500 pick is Ryan Hunter-Reay (+145) over Rinus VeeKay. "Ryan Hunter-Reay has really been strong over the last month," McClure says. "He's definitely going to be there and have a solid finish."
McClure then turns his attention to NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 (6 p.m. ET) and takes Kurt Busch (+115) over Austin Dillon and Cole Custer (-110) over Ross Chastain. "Custer has a little more experience now at this level," he says. "He's racing these longer races week in and week out."
Coach jumps in and reveals a pick in the PGA's Charles Schwab Challenge: Jordan Spieth (-150) over Jason Kokrak (2:45 p.m. ET). "He's got a one-shot lead," Coach says of Spieth. "At worst, you're going to push this bet, and I think you're going to win it because I think he's going to extend the lead today."
Hartstein then makes a pair of prop bets, with the first being in the NBA: Phoenix's Deandre Ayton to go Over 16.5 points (-105) when the Suns face the Lakers (3:30 p.m. ET). "This is the most consistent player for the Suns in the series," Larry says. "The Lakers basically have not been able to stop him."
He makes his other pick in MLB: Minnesota's Matt Shoemaker goes Under 4.5 strikeouts (-145) when the Twins take on the Royals (2:10 p.m. ET). "This guy has gone Under 4.5 in three (starts) in a row, six of his last seven," Hartstein says. "The Royals do not strike out a lot and you've got a very hitter-friendly umpire today."
