Looking to fill the frontcourt vacancy left by the surprise defection of Elton Brand to the 76ers, the Clippers acquired center Elton Brand from the Nuggets -- and didn't have to give up much in the process.

The cost was merely the right to allow Denver to exchange its second-round draft pick in 2010 with the Clippers', as the Nuggets were looking to create salary-cap space.

Camby, 34, was the NBA's defensive player of the year in 2006-07, and he topped the league in blocked shots with 3.61 per game in 2007-08 -- the third season in a row he's led that stat. Defense and rebounding (13.1 per game last season) are his forte, but he did average 9.1 points in '07-'08.

Camby joins Chris Kaman to give the Clippers two centers, but Camby will move to power forward, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

"I love this acquisition for the current makeup of our team," coach Mike Dunleavy said.

The arrival of Camby likely ends the Clippers' pursuit of restricted free agent Josh Smith.
